Sucker punches & the Brunes a class act

There's a code even in hockey except for the Brunes & Shawn Thornton.

Thornton is an enforcer. His job was to payback for that hit on his teammate while he was on the ground. That's just the game we pay for.

azasadny 12-07-2013 08:10 PM

You said "class" and "hockey" together... that's weird. It's a "goon sport" and I use the word "sport" very loosely...

bull! that was bush league and he should be gone for a looong time.

rattlsnak 12-07-2013 10:27 PM

^^^ Really? and what about the guy who purposely hit Marchant while he was down? Total GOON..

Gogar 12-07-2013 10:33 PM

Wait, so . . . you're mad at the guy who hit the one guy or the second guy who hit the guy? Just getting it straight.

rattlsnak 12-07-2013 10:35 PM

lol, I'm saying the first guy was the GOON and started it all..

Rick V 12-08-2013 04:05 AM

I thought it was termination from the game and the league for a gloved punch? As in you will never play again type of thing.

billybek 12-08-2013 04:22 AM

Wow! The knee to the head was absolutely deliberate and dangerous. James Neal authored that piece of work...
He will be gone for a while.
It looks like the wrong guy got the stick end of the retaliation although Orpik might have had it coming for that earlier hit on Erickson. Thornton should be gone for a while too.
Certainly some examples of the best and the worst hockey has to offer in that game.
The outright disrespect for the safety of the opposing players is getting out of hand.

widgeon13 12-08-2013 05:43 AM

This crap won't stop until they start filing criminal charges for that kind of behavior. The knee to the head constituted assault!

Reg 12-08-2013 06:42 AM

That was an ugly game. Hopefully the Leafs will get 2 pts tonite with a shortstaffed Bruins team as their opponent.

Suspensions ahead. I bet Thornton gets at least 10 games. Neal 5 games.

Tobra 12-08-2013 08:32 AM

It is a shame what hockey has become. I really wish they would straighten it out.

widgeon13 12-08-2013 08:35 AM

There was a time when fighting was part of the game but assault is something entirely and unacceptable behavior for the game of hockey.

1990C4S 12-08-2013 10:03 AM

Thornton has never been suspended. That will change tomorrow.

What Les said sounds about right, so expect less from the league, maybe three for Neal, six for Thornton.

And give the refs a few days off without pay. They did not do their job.

As is a punch in boxing. It's been done before, charges are dropped or judges refuse to convict.

The players assume the risk when they step on the ice, and they keep playing.

Thornton should have gone after the Bruins D that fired the suicide pass up the ice.

Elmer Fudd runs the team. Who can be surprised?

Maybe the lawsuit will make the league take head injuries seriously. There were only two on that play, and only one stretcher.

never said he was innocent. but one case "may" be made that the knee strike was accidental (I don't think so)...but not so much for the punch. However, I think that the players need to be held responsible for knees and elbows as much as their sticks.

Good, let Marchant go get Neal. And then it's not national news, it's just another NHL fight/injury/attack whatever.
