No way around it, I have to go back to drinking coffee.

I'm just not as productive without a cup of coffee in the AM. I'll just have to put up with the sour stomach and occasional heartburn. I wish there was a better way to get some caffeine. I've tried Monster and other energy drinks but coffee still tastes best and has the mildest side effects.

Anyone find a satisfactory substitute for coffee?

Nope. Same here. Canīt live with it, canīt live without it.

I never got into drinking coffee and I'm glad I didn't. I dont know if I'd be more productive but I doubt it.

Wonder if caffeine is like other drugs where once you detox your body of it, you'll need/want it less and less?

I drink strong tea - steeped about 5-10 mins about 3 X a day. I drink the occasional coffee - more in the summer before I golf coz I imagine it gives me energy. I am not addicted to coffee but I need a tea fix. Try it you might like it.I understand why you like coffee but it is pretty harsh.

My preferred teas are Tetley, Typhoo, Red Rose.
Coffee preferred are McDonalds, Timmy Hortons.:)

Coffee is God's gift to those who have to have an addiction. Me for instance. I'd rather have a coffee addiction than an alcohol one, or a sugar one.

Strong tea jacks me up.
I'll never give up coffee...unless it's a matter of life/death.

50 mg of Modafinil.
No side effects whatsoever for me.

cantdrv55 12-09-2013 11:13 AM

Modafinil. I'll have to google that.

Strangely, tea is harsher on my tummy. I used to drink the stuff like water though. Bought it mainly from Chinatown.

wdfifteen 12-09-2013 11:17 AM

Modafinil - I think 100mg is the smallest clinical dose. My doc gave them to me when I told him about suddenly falling asleep while driving. 50mg has the effect of about 2 cups of coffee, but it lasts 4-6 hours. I get 200mg tablets and quarter them. Costs less than coffee.

OP may want to try coffee + a proton pump inhibitor

time for a visit to your PCP

cantdrv55 12-09-2013 01:13 PM

I'm on Nexium already, unfortunately.

Yup, it's a fairly benign vice.

??? when you eat/drink anything with sugar does it cause acid/heartburn in your stomach?

cantdrv55 12-09-2013 02:34 PM

Not usually with sugar. For sure I get heartburn with coffee, cola, garlic, chocolate and onions.

Get yourself tested for H. pylori. I expect that may be the real source of "sour stomach".

Monza_dh 12-09-2013 02:44 PM

I drink espresso only because if I drink regular coffee it upsets my stomach. One or two shots in the am will get you going plenty and its only a few ounces of liquid instead of a 12-16 oz.
