Another great one leaves us. RIP, Mr. O'Toole.
A great underrated film of his..My Favorite Year. My Dad's '51 Cadillac Fleetwood was his character's personal limousine in the movie, and you can see an interior shot with him in this trailer. Here's the car from a movie still: IMCDb.org: 1951 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 [7533X] in "My Favorite Year, 1982"

You've got to see him with the gal in Venus (2006). His lines are to die for!
Maurice: I will die soon, Venus. Can I touch your hand? Jessie: That's one chat-up line I haven't heard. Maurice: I'm impotent, of course. Jessie: Thank Christ. Maurice: But I can still take a theoretical interest. Jessie: Have you been thinking about me? Maurice: All the time I was in hospital. Jessie: What did you think about me? Maurice: I saw your body. Jessie: Which part? Maurice: Your hair. Your feet. Your legs, your behind, your eyes. Jessie: My eyes? Maurice: Your elbows. Your c*nt. Jessie: Oh, shut up. You can touch my hand. [he kisses her hand] Jessie: Only with your fingers. Anything else will make me vomitous. Maurice: Can I ask you, have you ever been in love before? [she smiles] Also, can't forget Lawrence of Arabia. One of my fave movies.

Wife and I watched Venus last night. Irony. Mrs. LWJ commented "I wonder if he is still alive." We watched a movie about him dying on the day he passed. He was a talent.

^^^^ Same here but the movie Venus was running a few nights back on some network. Kind of out there but wife liked it too. More odd, she mentioned he's been gone for a few years and I just assumed the same. That movie makes him even more fascinating. He's so good its like he's not acting. LOL
RIP Mr. O'Toole.

O'Toole, Jeremy Irons, James Hunt, Richard Burton
All cut from the same mould, I would say. Hard living, full of life. Keith Richards too!
A Noel Coward quote in todays paper ..."if O'toole was any prettier we'd have had to call it "Florence of Arabia" ![]() |
