Why I hate Ferrari's
But not all Ferraris…. Love the "older" stuff.
Doing a friend a favor so we decided to bring this to the hallowed Mercedes/Porsche ect man cave. F-355 1997 24,000 miles, what a **** box, crappy engineering. The bearing part of the clutch is done $3,000.00 for the part, we located one for 1500, but needs a half day of assembly and 2 days of re assembly. Fasteners falling out everywhere. interior coming apart. Leaks from every orafice. for sale 40,000, probably was close to 200K new? Now a 40,000 car buyer cannot afford this car and the repairs. I hear when the engine is done it's 8K a hole times 8http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1387671990.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1387672017.jpg |
are you insane? look at the hill engineering part. the bearing is less than $600 from ricambi. the clutch job on the 355 is quite possibly the easiest car to change a clutch on.
make sure you do the triple seals while you're in there. if your mechanic is taking days to do this...he's not doing it right. |
yeah, but they look and sound really cool. I've heard that they go like stink too.

How much is the broomstick to hold the engine lid up?
|
$12K for a Ring and Pinion....
Unbelievable. This is from Ricambi- the bargain site.

This pretty much defines F355 ownership (and the delusions that come with it):
Have we destroyed the 355? - FerrariChat.com Shame because it's one of the better looking mid-engine Ferraris and the sound is amazing with Tubi, but the ownership experience and how slow it is are why values are in the toilet. |
how slow it is? I don't think that really has any correlation with values. it's a 20 year old car that does 0-60 in around 4.5 seconds and does 180mph. the 360 was only marginally faster. maybe a half second in 0-60? who cares about the numbers though.

The "complete" in the "differential" line description refers to the diff (e.g. the casing, end cap, friction/plain plates, bellville washers, bolts etc), not all the parts on that diagram... I don't have much of a problem with $3,300 for a LSD or $12,000 for a CWP. An Albins CWP for a 911 is $3,000 - and I would SWAG that these move at least 100x faster than part #132413. You knew the risks when you bought the car - or should have; racing aside, most cars will go to their final rest with their original CWP... What shows a problem to me is item #6 on that diagram. Those nuts are either made from unobtainium blanched in unicorn tears - or you're being fleeced. And just because I watched it again the other night, here's one of my favorite 80's movie quotes: Quote:
