My boy after the storm
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388670523.jpg Of course he's in the required Canadian ice wear, PJ pants, T-shirt and crocks with bare feet, but it's only -8*C ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388670749.jpg Ski helmet was because even he was afraid of slipping on ice. |

I actually liked the storm, nature pruning the trees. Very pretty as well.
In the city all the tree huggers are like "oh you can't cut the poor trees", But us country types are "we have lots of trees get them the fuch away from the house and power lines". We lost power for maybe 12-14 hours, doesn't matter to me, my heat source and cooking doesn't need electrical. Some pictures taken in my back yard. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388679932.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388679958.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388679997.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388680037.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388680071.jpg |
In upstate NY National Grid used to trim the trees on the power lines then stopped a few years ago. It was a major cost savings for them and a major PITA for the customer since we now have more frequent power outages due to more dead limbs falling onto the lines. I went with an automatic generator years ago because I just got tired of sitting in the cold and dark.

77F here in Los Angeles today. A little too warm for me for "winter."
|
Was 70 here yesterday.
Enjoyed a nice day in the yard having Mimosas with some neighbors while the kids played ball. Barely 30 today, no desire to venture outside. |

Sunday's projected high... - 8F. Sunday night's projected low... - 24F. Monday's projected high... - 15F. No real wonder that the Packer game is not selling out...but most project that it will eventually.

<<<<<< not *****in at all after reading previous posts. Should be 8F in the am and 3F on Monday. About 5 in of snow tonight and I think my furnace (back-up dino) may even run by morning. Been throwing wood in the stove all eve but it can't do "real" cold.
Not thinking I'll be inspecting concrete pours that much tomorrow... being a mile from work and having 4 wheel drive kinda sucks |
Sorry - can't help myself. I am so ignorant of real weather. I've skied in -10 in Vale etc., but I've spent 50 years in So Cal. 75 and clear here for the last couple of weeks. Shorts and flipflops.
Christmas day: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388721801.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388721834.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388721867.jpg I know Ima deek. Just couldn't help it. I'm sure you live in prettier locales than I most of the time, but when I see these threads, (and the ones about winter storage and winter projects) it reminds me how big and diverse our country is. BTW - both daughters return to sophomore and senior year in college in MD and MI: neither think they will settle in CA. Go figure... |
