We went to our neighbors for Xmas eve. There were supposed to be 14 people there so we took 3 tortiere pies. These are pies with minced spiced pork.
Before and after baking pics with mashed potatoes. They go well with peas as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I got a ham bone from the honey baked ham store with about 3 lbs of ham on it. Making ham and bean soup, fresh italian bread, eat it when you feel like it as it cooks all day. Today is gonna be laid back, Mj is still house bound so it's just us two today. We did "first Christmas" with my kids and the grandboyz last weekend. Opened presents last night. Old movies on TV today..

Last night we reprised a Christmas I spend in Mexico with the the step-kids and step-grandkids. Got the tortilla press down and had the grandkids squash tortilla's while the rest of us made up the toppings. I had a pork roast slow cooking all day. Had marguiritas and Tecate, carne assada, beans, and lots of fruit and fireworks after dark (I'll be the neighbors loved it: "Silent Night (BAMM!!) "Holy Night (WHOOSH BAMM!!).
I had the idea of handing the grandsons (7 and 8) a couple of cheap digital cameras I had laying around and giving the assignment of photographing the party. Brilliant! it kept them busy and more or less quiet for a couple of hours.

Now that I have your attention what I mean is that we are having leg of lamb, with rosemary and roasted potatoes, and maple marinated, cooked on the BBQ filet of salmon. We generally have 15 to 20 for dinner, but this year we are down to 10. I probably have way too much food.

We're heading out to my wife's relatives. That means there will be too many things to list. My wife made two cakes and a bunch of cookies to take along. I'll not be overeating.

I'm working today, but yesterday we had our Christmas dinner. The missus takes requests from everyone so we have comfort food. Turkey that turned out perfectly (moist and yummy dark and light meat), dressing, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, chocolate pecan pie and egg nog.
We went with the plan for the turkey from Good Eats with Alton Brown. We decided on that at the last minute and found ourselves at the grocery store at 10pm on the 23 to pick up a few things. We brined the turkey overnight and cooked it in the morning. 500 for 30 mins to crisp and brown the skin, the cover the breast in foil and 350 until the breast registers 161 on the thermometer. We also used the egg nog recipe from the show. It was easy to make and the yummiest egg nog I've ever had. We/ve had several dressings over the years, but the past two years have settled on a really tasty corn bread dressing. It was a very nice dinner with the family. Afterwards, we played board games for a bit. Merry Christmas everyone!

Saffron risotto with onion, garlic and blanched asparagus topped with pan seared diver scallops. Served with a French Chablis. A lip smacking Christmas treat!

Standing rib roast on the Big Green Egg!
Nice day today so I was able to use some of the new BGE toys like the Looftlighter. I will see if I can do some before and after shots of the chunk of cow. After cooking not after digestion, just to be clear.... My wife's wonderful mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. My mom is bringing salad and a pie. Cheers all!
