One thing that sucks about it though is it has completely screwed the prices of AMD video cards.

More and more business are accepting cryptocurrency all the time. I think it is here to stay. about 2 years ago I left my computer on for several days mining bitcoin. I have like 0.04 (lol) which is worth like 20 bucks. lol.

My main system in on 24/7. I left it mining for a week, just last week. It "found" nothing at all. Getting harder and harder, I've read.
There are extremely powerful systems made just for that purpose.

And that's that... It's over and any similar "currency" will have a real hard time getting off the ground.

Bitcoin CEO found dead in Singapore, suicide suspected — RT Business

The title of BitCoin CEO is incorrect.
There is no such thing as a CEO for the currency.
She owned/ran one of the Bitcoin exchanges.

The article says the female CEO died in the title, then quotes the real male CEO, but we should not be using the term CEO at all?

A young American woman who ran the First Meta bitcoin exchange was found dead in her Singapore apartment last week. Police are investigating the “unnatural death”.............................

Neighbor and fellow bitcoin start-up entrepreneur Steve Beauregard lived in the same residential complex as Radtke and said her death wasn’t related to her business. Beauregard is the CEO and founder of GoCoin, a bitcoin processer started in April 2013.

Anyone know about this stuff?

MBAtarga 03-06-2014 04:01 PM

Referring to someone as the CEO of Bitcoin is the same as referring to someone as the CEO of the US Dollar or the Mexican Peso.

There is no such thing as a CEO of bitcoin. Bitcoin is the currency. There are CEO's of many different companies associated with its exchanges or "banks". She was the CEO of the company operating as an exchange for the currency.

Bitcoin is a digital currency. It's only value is that others are willing/acceptable in receiving it in exchange for goods/services. It's been mostly associated with the purchase of drugs and illegal activity, in that it is somewhat of an anonymous method of exchanging large amounts of money.

:o Second Sober Thought Removal...

Sorry for my offensive post.

sc_rufctr 03-06-2014 05:38 PM

Whatever...

For any currency to have "value" the people using it must have confidence in that currency.
So for instance, would you take Bitcoin as payment for a house or car you were selling?

There's no way I would.

Wow, who pissed in your beer, eh?

It's true though. How much can the "facts" of the article be relied on if they can't get one very big, very basic fact straight.

It's the willingness of folks to let that kind of crap slip through that is helping us to hell in a hand basket.

Your rant sounds like the sort of thing that you'd get from one of those kids that uses text speak for all written and spoken communications if you called them out on sounding like an idiot.

Just because one company has gone bankrupt and another CEO couldn't take it any more, doesn't mean that bitcoin is done. It could be that the bubble has burst, but bitcoin may be around for a long time with a tiny corner of the market just trickling along. It's not like its value has dropped ack to nothing, and retailers are still taking it.

Sadly, the big problem is that it's essentially, all online, which means that anyplace that works with it should have state of the art security and they don't. Financial institutions spend HUGE money on security so hackers can't get into their networks and steal money. Unfortunately, there have already been several huge thefts of bitcoin because the secure infrastructure isn't in place.

Bitcoin is like the wild, Wild West. Since there's virtually no regulation for it and it really took hold in the criminal underworld of the Internet, it's got a way to go before it's a good alternative to any existing ways of doing business.

Funny thing yesterday - I met with my financial advisor and we reviewed my 401k balance. At the end of our meeting I asked about strategy for me to retire in 10 years, I asked him - so how soon did he think I could liquidate my equities and move all my money to bitcoins? I thought he was going to fall out of his chair! I then let on that I was totally joking of course.

Hilarious. I wish I'd been there to see his reaction.

There are extremely powerful systems made just for that purpose.

try joining a pool. they pool the CPU time and pay according to how much processing power you contributed.

also, google 'bitcoin ASIC'. much less power consumption, much greater processing of the specific application. not cheap.
