Don't laugh at the old man, gents.

I have some friends who imbibed back in the day, and do today as well. In discussions with them it depends on your comparison point. If you had Columbian or Mexican shake back in the day, the new strains are night and day. If you had "sensi" back in the late 70's, today is stronger but not massively so with a few exceptions. One friend owns his own (creative) biz for 10 years now and regularly imbibes. I've talked with him about it.

Technology has changed the landscape somewhat. Different strains are now bred for different effects, and using a vaporizer takes away most of the issues around tars/smell/etc. People are doing edibles and tinctures, some with specific target symptoms (nausea, anxiety, pain, etc). One caution is around edibles - hard to know dosing and it is a different experience that is more on the psychedelic side. One good thing about smoking/vapor is that it is quick acting and relatively easy to control dosing.

Fascinating to see how things have changed over the past 30 years. At the risk of sounding like one of those damn hippies, there are a lot of big pharma pills that get swallowed every day for ailments that probably would be better treated by pot.

I never lied about my use and it has been a recurring theme on security clearance interviews. The good news is I never lied about nor have a partaken in over 30 years. It has been a non-issue.

Hey Paul....I'm in the same boat as you. Used to partake in my youth. A client left me a gift of some primo medical weed he acquired in Colorado last month. Why, I don't know because I've not smoked in years.

All I can say....my how times have changed. You remember the old myths/legends about "one toke" chit. It ain't a myth anymore. This new engineered stuff is flat off the chart.

And in general there are three broad categories - sativa, indica, and hybrids. One argument for the collectives/shops is that you know what you're getting. Sativas tend to be more psychoactive but make some paranoid. Indicas are more body high but can lead to couchlock (laughed the first time I read that term). Hybrids get bred either direction.

Tons of inter webs reading on this stuff and fascinating to those of us who have an interesting past.

Joke article. Not real

My "gift" was 2 different strains consisting of 4 large buds....guy said it was $40 for an eighth oz for one and $50 for the other. I literally took one hit of one of them out of curiosity and found it to be very mild. Extremely potent but a mellow high at the same time. Reminded me of a hash high as far as I remember. Was also impressed with how sanitized it was. No seeds or stems or trash.

Gave the rest of it to a local conoiseur and he reported it was some of the finest he's ever sampled....and I have no doubt he would know.

Went to sleep and had vivid dreams that I was eating a 20 lb. marshmallow.....woke up and my pillow was gone.;)

you wouldn't believe how strong some of the new strains are. And I was shocked at how potent the edible stuff is. I was "encouraged" by my neurologist to try and get medical grade stuff when I was first recovering from my SCI. Chronic pain was very serious. Of course Jersey wouldn't allow me to use because SCI isn't recognized as a legitimate issue. So going through other sources was the answer. That stuff was so strong I said no thanks after a very short time.

Serious question. If it's legal in CO, the United States and you have a drug test for work, and can prove you were in CO recently, wouldn't you be in the clear? Is your agency giving you any guidance on this?

1. federal law still is more powerful then state law
2. company policy can still ban you from anything they want to, even if it is legal

I don't want my kids to become loser potheads with zero desire to grow and achieve in this world. Having some states legalize it tells my kids that it's a matter of opinion at best whether pot is bad for them.

Steve,

The rules haven't changed in terms of illegal substances...and military folks still get tested for pot.

I owned and have subsequently sold, a company that did DoD support work and other programs. I now work for the company that bought me doing commercial UAS stuff.

We are being told that pot is still a banned substance and even though I am no longer in any danger of taking a "pee" test, I will not violate the law or lie about my own personal conduct.

Plus I am married to a GS 15 with uber clearances and I'd do not one thing to compromise her.

That's all I know.

Sorry, but that is just anti-pot propaganda. It ain't the pot, it's the person. I dwell in industries that have always been 'sympathetic' to recreational drug use & I know a lot of very successful people who could be labelled potheads.

Worked in the hotel/restaurant industry for many, many years and my statements come directly from experience.

imcarthur 01-03-2014 12:11 PM

I also had a stint in F&B supply & you should know that the low wages on offer don't necessarily attract the brightest bulbs so it ain't the pot . . .

Yeah, there is a nature/nurture issue at work there.

I am somewhat surprised that people will make a blanket condemnation of pot use, but have zero issue with people who down a few cocktails after work or throw back a few beers while watching the game (which btw isn't exactly the most productive use of ones time :D)

does alcohol being legal tell your kids a matter of opinion at best if it is bad for them?

That is exactly what I was looking for, the nouns and verbs. I really want to avoid the Sativas, as I did many years ago.

Couchlock: Beautiful, as is all compact humor.

Here you go Paul, A nice indica. ;)
