No parent wants their child to be chemically dependant. Keeping marijuana illegal has had next to zero effect on it availability. I vote educate and tax, as opposed to foolishing spend tax dollars trying to try and stamp it out. |
Psssstttt.....Paul. A nice sativa and a cup of strong coffee. Take a walk on your favorite trail, makes for a pleasant time.

just like you can drink and not be an alcoholic you can smoke without being a pot head. Tons of very succesful people have admitted to chronic pot use, and frankly I would trust a pot head a lot sooner than an alcoholic.

No one in the world who is inclined to smoke marijuana has been sitting on the sidelines all of their life, waiting for legalization. Millions of people have been smoking it for decades in the U.S.A. and the rest of the world regardless of legal status.
It's a criminal waste to imprison people for that schit. The biggest problem with it is the criminal organisations that thrive because of its contraband status. |

People with additive personalities will abuse anything. How many people "need" a cup of coffee in the morning to start their day? Or cigarettes? Just a couple of drinks after work? Or at lunch? How about gambling? I know a guy who gets paid and off to the casino he goes. Yes you will now have people who do nothing but smoke weed all day long but that's all they probably did before it was legalised.
I remember reading about the relaxing of liquor laws years ago, it said that they found by relaxing strict access there was a reduction in alcohol abuse. Time will tell if that is the case with pot. |
Colorado is blazing new territory. Brave high country trail-blazers...
Washington State is still a few months away from opening its recreational marijuana stores, but it's going to be big here also. The store prices will be quite high, and that will prompt many people to continue buying thru their long-time dealers, but the novelty of this now-legal contraband and its easy availability will make it a success. I'm worried that the Federal DEA is waiting until the stores become successful, and will then make massive sweeps to arrest the owners and seize all the assets of the owners. That would result in huge $$$ for federal law enforcement agencies. Washington State currently has a modest Medical Marijuana market that is under constant threat from the feds, and the threat is very real. Just a few months ago, several MMJ stores were raided and seized by federal agents, and the state authorities could do nothing but stand aside and watch this travesty. The citizens of Colorado and Washington are very brave. __ |

Though I admit I have no idea whether tax is factored in or not. Or is recreational pot going to be taxed more than medical pot? |
Quote:
In Colorado, medical marijuana is subject to standard sales tax, Recreational marijuana carries an additional 15% excise tax, and a 10% extra state sales tax, in addition to the current 2.9% state portion of sales tax. So, in Denver, for example: Medical marijuana = 7.62%. Recreational Marijuana = 32.62%. That's the way I understand it. |
Well "you can't put a price on a good time" was what a guy I worked with years ago would say.

Sure you can. Otherwise, whores would be free. :)

Re: how much stronger is it today than in days of yore, one of the sea changes here is that when buying from a dealer you typically get whatever the dealer has, and you find out how strong it is by actually trying it. Nowadays with the dispensaries you have maybe a dozen or more different types to choose from, and in the pics I have seen all are labeled with actual lab test results for what % THC is present as well as a handful of other "active" components. No guesswork, if you are looking for mild or wild it is there.

where is the tax revenue going?

"construction of new schools." Take that however you want. After the first $40M the revenue will be used for "regulatory efforts", and "education concerning Marijuana use." Of course, that means a big wasteful government bureaucracy full of desk jobs, basically. |
Best maryjane on the planet in the early days was from Vietnam. Let an old veteran (I turn 66 this year). Most fellow soldiers I met (1968 -1969) in Vietnam smoked weed. Lets parallel it to the movie, Platoon where you had your Budweiser drinking crowd and your pot smokers. Although we all drank whatever beer was around anyways, it seemed like more got stoned and the wave of users increased as newbee's tried it and enjoyed it. These were the better days before heroin and cocaine entered the scene in Vietnam (early 70's). Grass was very prevalent with no enforcement and could be obtained by buying a pre-packaged (Kool, Newport, Salem or other mentholated brand) pack of 20 for about 2-dollars American. Kids would buy cigarettes on the black market, methodically remove the tobacco and repack with fine grass. Cheap, convenient and easy. Or you went to the Momasan's hootch and she gave you a bag full for less than 5 bucks. Pipes use was popular as well. It was way to easy to buy back then. Vietnamese grass was EXTREMELY strong resulting in powerfull audibles and visuals compared to the Mexican imports that blanketed the US back then. You acclimated to it. Before X-rays and sniffing dogs in customs, GI's sent hundreds of pounds back in whole baggage turning on friends back in the states (I hid mine behind my speakers!). That created just another bump up in marijuana use back then. Today through cross pollination, genetic engineering and hydroponics the levels of THC can be controlled. When they showed the different strains of grass in the jars in a new Colorado pot store, it ran the gamut from mild to intense, this allowing the purchaser to control their level of high. I find this to be the best fantastic. Controlling the buzz level...............
I know of no one who has ever had to quit a job, was fired, demoted or defamed working in a professional capacity because of occasional grass use. Now in my mid-60's its no surprise to my adult children that the occasional toke helps to sooth the aches, relax the mind and stir up the soul. What has surprised me, is the number of folks in my age bracket who do turn on. Its not going away. Thanks Colorado :) "mothers and fathers throughout the land do not criticize what you don't understand, for your road is rapidly changing"...Bob Dylan |

280/oz. for the good stuff?
pretty expensive, no? They wouldn't sell much in BC, at those prices. Closer to half that price. In Canadian pesos. We bought the Vietnamese stuff, (while in high school) - through the chain link fence, at Minot Air Force base. In 1970. Is there a certain percentage of the proceeds(in Colorado)that is used for rehab, education, etc? Is there a roadside impairment test? Washington state is next, apparently. There can certainly be some high prices to pay, if you are caught with it elsewhere. In BC there were approximately 4000 possession charges in 2013. Discretion of the officer with the Vancouver Police Dept. The RCMP may drag you away in leg irons; on a bad day, you may even get a taste of the taser. You will not be allowed to fly OVER the US, once convicted. |
