2 1/2 days in NYC what must I not miss seeing

What time of year are you going?

I am from the area and did this street mystery tour. Accomplice: The Show | Part Theater. Part Game. All Fun. NYC. It was fun, a little silly and a great way to get a walking tour of part of NYC. We'll worth the money and the trip. You also get to meet people from all over. I had relatives from downunder come in and they loved it. If it is still cold out, I WOULDN'T do this, but spring, yup. I got to walk across the brooklyn bridge. Driven over 100 times, never walked it. What an amazing structure!

Other stuff...museums, eh, don't get me wrong, they are great, however, I think there are too many unique experiences that a museum trip would be second my my list after many of the things listed here.

I would also recommend McSorley's as stated before. It is a cool old bar. The walls have newspaper clippings from the ages. One of them has the titanic sinking.


Ground zero is emotional, I would recommend it. Every time I drive under the bridge with that chunk taken out of it, i get emotional.


Strange no one mentioned ellis island. I love this place. I really enjoyed seeing all the history of people coming to america. This teared me up for different reasons, but all of my family come over thru ellis island so I suppose it is personal. http://www.ellisisland.org/genealogy/ellis_island.asp

One other thought that is cool and little know is the tenement museum Tenement Museum New York City - NYC Museum. I know i said to that museums would be second on the list, I just mean the typical ones (like MOMA, Natural History, etc). The tenement museum shows people what it was like for early immigrants. Very neat history.

Oh, I also like ferrara's (for desert) and little italy (for food). Very "touristy' but a great experience. Buy some knock off goods from the chinese down there. Can't go wrong with the $20 rolexes.

Finally, places to stay, look up bed and breakfast places in the village. It'll be a great fun and you get to experience NY like a local.

Definitely take the subway somewhere. Get chinese food at 4am.

That said, if you REALLY want to experience NY like a NYers, rent a car during rush hour and try to drive it over the george washington bridge. It'll be an unforgettable 4 hours of your life.

Except that there is no city in the world with art like NYC. Maybe London comes somewhat close followed by LA?

If you're only there for a couple of days, go see a few things and simply hang out, NY will not disappoint.
