"Inglorious Bastards" on TNT right now

Quite a movie.

Been on for an hour and there's still a couple more hours to go.

Denis,

Is this a fact - or just your opinion but MMMV?

Maybe I should change channels.

I await and value your input.

Colonel Hans Landa - the "Jew Hunter' makes the movie. What a role! Hilarious!

Well, I guess Tarantino is nothing if not polarizing.

He's a hack. I like him when he's not trying to get serious and be historical. Then he really sucks.

fantastic movie if you get Tarantino.... Django may be his best yet, need to go see it again before making that declaration. Either way I love his work and think he continues to evolve and improve.

Maybe if Tarantino starts doing coke and gets a few DUIs, speeder will start liking him.

I have to agree with Denis. Inglorious Basterds started out strong — that opening scene at the farmhouse was brilliant — but soon devolved into bad farce. It could have been a great movie if Tarantino could have kept his tendency for bombast and buffoonery in check. But he couldn't. As a result it is a very immature and cartoonish film.

I was seriously dispaprointed with that movie. It had been hyped up pretty good so I was expecting much more.

One thing that stuck with me was, there are a lot of folks out there who are too uninformed and ignorant to know what really happened during WWII, I hope they don't think that movie was factual.
Kind of an unintentional re-write of history.

Or at least I'd like to think it was unintentional.

I've tried to watch the movie three times, PPV the first two. It's put me to sleep all three, never made it to the end. That movie is better than Ambien.

What I enjoyed about the movie:

Unusual and unique plot
Multiple twists and turns - per all Tarratino movies
Military oriented
Cool foreign languages used
Great acting
Length - something to be said for long movies
Music score
Surprise ending

This movie received a lot of industry accolades but ultimately either you like a movie or you don't.

I liked it - and you are entitled to your opinion as well

I agree. Final bloodbath in the theatre was just ridiculous. Some good bits earlier on but self consciously heroic.

The man's movies are the definition of "hack" from an artistic standpoint. They draw from a low intelligence audience and do well as a result.

Like reading a comic book, not really literature.

I think this may be overstating things.

Tarantino is a self-confessed video and comic book junkie. He's an adolescent in his brilliance, interests and attention span. He has never really grown up. He loves the comic-book genre, and this is reflected in all of his films. I call this "farce" and "buffoonery" for shorthand. The "Kill Bill" series is a good example.

His films are very, very good — and often brilliant — but this is a juvenile brilliance IMO. To say they rely on a "low intelligence audience" is nonsense. But their appeal does lie principally with a young demographic.

For me this is the most frustrating thing about his films: you constantly get a glimpse of just how brilliant they could be if only they were more adult. Imagine if he made serious, edgy stuff like eg. the Coen Brothers.

But it's just not in him. He's just a big kid.
