Say what you want about the complexity, that is one cool looking roof, and car!

Looks great, but Id prefer one that you have to remove manually.

Nice looking, but as people said, what will you do with it in 20 years when you can hopefully get parts? Whats the going price on an 84 Targa top, something crazy like $5,000?, and that is just fabric and whatever the frame is made of.

What about the rear seats? Is there room for them? Or are they eliminated?

EVERY new car is complex these days, that's just the way of the world...actually not just cars, it seems every THING is complex these days. Anyway, I suspect most buyers won't worry about what might potentially happen down the road with repairs. I still think it rocks!

Wow, that's the first watercooled Porsche that's ever really pushed my buttons.
Ever since "accidentally" buying a Targa many years ago, I've been hooked and have had only Targas since. And I'd like to have that one! That being said, if there was an option to just have a regular fixed rear window and a manual top, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Maybe that system isn't quite as complex as it looks (although having worked on an electric 944 sunroof recently, I doubt it), but even if well designed, there's going to be a lot of motors, sensors, hydraulics, etc etc. |

But there's always something to ruin it . . .
"The Targa will be offered only in the four-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models. Standard four-wheel-drive has less to do with marketing to bad-weather regions and more with overall performance, said Porsche spokesman Nick Twork. Porsche is betting the Targa buyer will want the extra grip in high-speed cornering regardless of road conditions. The system also adds substantially to the price — something else Porsche is famous for. The Targa 4 starts at $102,595; the 4S starts at $117,195." I would have gone the opposite direction. Only available as 2WD (it's an open car!), stripped down as a lower cost alternative to the cab. |
