BMW 2002 PPI in Sacramento

Sorry to keep bothering you folks, but from the last few threads I have found some really great shops that provided excellent PPI's.

So, the car is in Lincoln, Ca. near Sacramento.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Schatz and Krum is pretty much the go to around here for BMW, but it's not exactly close to Lincoln, about 40 minutes away.

"Servicing Porsche, BMW & MINI since 1985" | contact us (916) 381-3144

Also, I have never been, but I hear good things about Ryan GMW (RyanGMW | Mini Cooper Repair | BMW Repair | Auburn | Roseville | Rocklin | Lincoln CA) in Auburn, which is a little closer.

Thank you both. This one is a bit of a hybrid, not original: They put in a 5 speed and a 3 series rear end. The owner does old VW repair as well.

Could be interesting.

My Dad lives in Fairfield so he may go do a first pass.

Thanks again!

A guy I golf with son does complete resto's on 2002's. It is the only car that he does. The last time I was at his shop he had 17 of them in various stages and 4 more outside under car covers. Tii's, turbos, widebodies, Alpina's, you name it.

I can talk with him if you like. They are not cheap.

I see both of those modifications being plusses!

Used to be a guy here in San Jose by the name of Jaime who was pretty steeped in the Bimmer scene (local BMW club). I sold him some Porsche parts about five years ago. He had a sweet Touring and we chatted for awhile about 02's. He mentioned that he also looked for cars for folks on the side. I'll see if I can dig up his info and pass it on. Can't hurt.

Agree. We'll see. This is number 15 or so, so being a tad jaded becomes a way of life.

First world problem, no complaints.

Not so much a search, more like a quest at this point.

It is funny how expectations change.

I started the quest with an idea for a pretty simple driver, much like I did with the 356 I bought years ago: an original, structurally sound body with fixable mechanics. Drive it for a few years, see if I want to pursuit the next phase or sell.

The market for these things is way ahead of me, especially price wise. While my sample size is still narrow, the amount of junk out there is daunting. These were toss-able, under appreciated cars for a very long time so original, unmolested examples are hard to find. With few exceptions, my last name would need to be "Bondo" to made it work.

There is no longer an expectation of the right color/interior, the right mechanical disposition and lack of rust at a reasonable price: I can find 2 of 4, sliced anyway you want.

I have a line now on two cars, the one in Sac and the other the Wisconsin car. One is modified (which in this case I like) and the other, I hope (the PPI is pending based on the weather in Wisc) original.

Again, first world problem, no worries on my end. I have learned quite a bit in the last month or so, met some really fine shop owners and enjoyed a few test drives.

Onward.

Sounds like my boat search. In the fall I embarked on my grand plan - find a bigger 22'-25' boat over the winter when prices are low, sell my current 19' boat in the spring when prices are high. Since then I've learned that boat sellers are compulsive liars that are deficient in communication and unable to operate a camera, and that 99.9% of used boats appear to be crap. Hence my maximum price has nearly doubled, and I'm prepared to drive nearly anywhere for the right one. The optimism of ignorance......
