Very minor niggle, Bad day made worse, can't even rely on the small things in life
So work has been pretty grim for a few months and we are getting through it.
My wife and I were ill from Xmas eve right through until early this week, so missed a lot of social events this winter. Tonight feeling better we decided to go for a drink at our local pub. We live in a fairly remote place and the trip to the pub in poor weather is a real treat, it is well worth it because of the unique beers and atmos. I ordered a pint of my favourite artisan beer and my wife had a glass of wine. Time passed and a good time was had by all, I went to the bar for another round. My particular beer is poured from a tap at a lower level bar to the one I was standing. The bar tender let the pint settle and poured a wine, I was then totally shocked to see him "top up" my pint with..........the contents of the tap catch tray!!!! I'm gutted, this place is brilliant and we are a long way from anywhere. I don't want to mention it to my better half as she won't go back again. The owner (who poured it!) is a decent guy and if I complain it will cause us hassel if we go back, If a man hasn't got his quiet beer, what is left! What to do......... (ps I appreciate some people have real problems ;-) )

I don't know the culture there, but if somone did that here they could get shut down by the health department.
I would be angry if he did that to me and would refuse to pay for it. In fact I would insist he pour a replacement pint for free. Unless of course it was a guiness, then the contents of the drip tray would most likely improve the flavor and it would a kindness he done ![]() just kidding. Perhaps this is why she's the 'better' half. I wouldn't go back either. I would have walked out. What else might he be doing, if he does that in plain sight?

Simple one.
Dude, I'm not drinking that, pour me a fresh one. And now you know you need to watch him pour every drink for you. |

The bartender (owner) may be a 'decent guy' but the fact is that he does not like you. Find a new pub.

its worth mentioning that there is no history or bad blood, we have only been here about 3 times since moving to the area. Looks like I'm looking for a new watering hole!

Being a displaced person(dp that is) from Scarborough, Yorks, England I would have taken some haggis and start tightening it around his neck until he started weasing like a bagpipe. Seriously you could ask him if this is normal practice in this part of the world as you don't approve of this.
I will get my daughter's fiancee's opinion on this as he runs an Irish pub and I am sure he would disapprove. There must be other pubs in the area? Cheers, Guy. ![]() |

You`r not a local, he does not care about you, where I live on the coast of Maine if you are a
PFA ( person from away ) the local wait staff may even spit in your beer. They want your money but thats all they want. |

The owner is scamming you and the taxman. He gets an allowance for wastage (ie cleaning the beer lines, spillage etc).
If he is doing that, what else does he do?

Meant to say if the pub is a tenancy I would write to the Brewery.

If I was worried that there wouldn't be a pub to frequent if I complained, an accidentally spilled pint would have gotten you a fresh pour.
I was all over England two summers ago and I loved the pub atmosphere. Would have been great to have been to Scotland and Ireland but it didn't work out. Cheers!

G'day!

This reinforces my long held theory.
Some are of the opinion that going out for dining/drinks is such a treat. For me......it has always represented a big gamble.....fine if that's your bag....certainly not a treat, IMHO. I do believe the treat for many - is the aspect of being waited on hand and foot.....you know....the servitude factor.

The OP got pimped for 10% of his pint with trough piss water. Focus on that rather than your real or imagined viewpoint of the pub/dining industry. I have never seen or heard of what has happened to the OP. It is appalling.
