				The early 911 market

Has gone completely off the rails. Here is what $35k buys you today in an early S, all of the good cars are loooong gone and now they're pulling them from the bottom of the river in New York.

That's his aks price. He started at $40K on Pelican FS. I suspect the sell $ will be somewhat south of that number.

Insane. The run up on these cars is crazier than what was happening with vintage guitars from '06-'07.

oddly enough, the early parts market hasn't followed the skyrocketing car prices. they've gone up, but not by that much. The only exception is MFI. There, prices have followed the cars. I will need a 69E MFI system someday and expect to pay 3X what I would 2-3 years ago.

If you are shopping, you will also notice, that there are usually more wtb ads for air cooled p cars, than actual cars for sale

Do you really expect the bubble to burst? It has shown no signs of slowing down for some time now. Even when the economy tanked a few years back, early 911 cars were still going strong. It seems as if now, more mainstream car collectors have caught the air cooled bug. People like Magnus, and Singer, and Jay Leno have been helping to put them in the limelight as well.

I would expect the bubble to burst. Seems like most do, sooner or later. Especially when the numbers are so unrealistic, like this POS:

I'm (obviously) interested in what will happen to 993 prices. I plan on hanging onto mine forever, and am thinking prices will start skyrocketing in about 10 years or so.

I'm pretty sure that all air-cooled 911 prices are on a gradual uphill curve, (especially for good, original cars), but what is happening with long hoods is never going to happen with anything newer than '73. Not a chance. They made too many of them and they are inherently less collectible for other reasons.

What this thread is about is not so much prices, (which are loony), but how the supply of cars is completely drying up. They are pulling piles of dog schit like this car out of farmer's fields and selling them.

Remember the guy in Wyoming with the warehouse full of early 911s that no one could ever close a deal with? The eccentric guy? Pretty sure that someone finally waved enough cash in front of him to buy all his cars except for the absolute scum. That scum, (rusty/crashed 911Ts and the like), are now the only thing he has listed. All for $30-40k each. Last edited by speeder; 01-18-2014 at 04:25 PM.. |

Someone on BAT claimed that many early 911s are headed back to Europe and there will be none left in the US to restore in a few years.

No idea if that is factual......

That's been gradually happening for at least ten years. And yes, the supply of truly good early 911s shrinks everyday. All good early 911S cars go to Europe.
