For my fellow romantics....."Same Time Next Year" with Alan Alda and Ellen Burnstyn. One of my fav. "tear jerker" movies. If you haven't seen it you should. Watch it with your significant other for best effect. :)
	This is a very tiny snippet - Alda is fantastic though throughout.....great stuff! <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/qQNbGOGN77Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

 Pretty wild TW...thanks!
With the passing of Sid Ceaser and subsequent discussion of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World I thought it a good time to post some new material.... <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lwCcownGNYM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is on FXM right now with an encore coming up later.
It took me a while to get through the whole movie - and after watching it a couple more times I've grown to appreciate it all the more. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett give amazing performances. Cate's a hottie....and that alone is worth the price of admission! http://content.internetvideoarchive..../23617511_.jpg |

Not really a movie as much as a documentary or an educational film - I am old enough to remember watching this one in grade school.

More movie trivia......the Sherman Brothers who were responsible for some of the best song writing in motion picture history.
The Sherman Brothers were an American songwriting duo that specialized in musical films, made up of Robert B. Sherman (December 19, 1925 – March 6, 2012) and Richard M. Sherman (born June 12, 1928). The Sherman Brothers wrote more motion-picture musical song scores than any other songwriting team in film history.[1] Film scores of the Sherman Brothers include Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Jungle Book, Charlotte's Web and The Aristocats. Sons of Russian Jewish immigrants, Robert and Richard Sherman began writing songs together in 1951 on a challenge from their father, Tin Pan Alley songwriter Al Sherman. The brothers wrote together and with different songwriting partners throughout the rest of the decade. In 1958, Robert founded the music publishing company Music World Corporation, which later enjoyed a landmark relationship with Disney's BMI-affiliated publishing arm, Wonderland Music Company. That same year, the Sherman Brothers had their first top-ten hit with "Tall Paul," sung by Mouseketeer Judy Harriet on the Surf Records label and then covered by Mouseketeer Annette Funicello. The success of this song yielded the attention of Walt Disney, who eventually hired the Sherman Brothers as Staff Songwriters for Walt Disney Studios. The first song they wrote on personal assignment by Walt Disney was "Strummin' Song" in 1961. It was used in the Annette Funicello made-for-television movie called The Horsemasters. While at Disney, the Sherman Brothers wrote more motion-picture musical scores than any other songwriters in the history of film. They also wrote what is perhaps their best-known song, "it's a small world (after all)" for the 1964 New York World's Fair. Since then, some have claimed that this has become the most translated and performed song on Earth, although this is largely due to the fact that it is played continuously at Disney's theme park "it's a small world" attractions of the same name.[2] (more here): Sherman Brothers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

Watching "Castaway" on FXM channel - almost over. Seen it a bunch of times. Saw it when it first came out in the theater and remember how blown away I was that night.
It's still one of the best movies in recent times on a number of levels. http://static.rogerebert.com/redacto...ay_rebirth.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-50MNEv0USs...y+-+Wilson.jpg http://static.rogerebert.com/redacto...crossroads.jpg |

Watching a 'new for me' movie now on FXM called "The Descendants" with George Clooney.
I saw the last hour of it earlier and because of FXM's encore format I'll now be able to see the first hour that I missed. Anyway - it's a good movie (based on what I have seen so far - great ending especially). Based in Hawaii with some beautiful soundtrack music.....and gorgeous scenery. |

Well that's stretching the notion of 'old movies,' but your thread; your rules.
All the stuff Alexander Payne has done is worth watching. Like John Hughes, he makes 'shades of gray' films with adults. People in his films aren't 100% bad or good. They are like... people. If you liked The Descendants, I think the best thing Clooney has been in in a long time was Up in the Air. |

Thanks for the head's up on the other GC movie. I'll watch for it.
And the Alex Payne series..... This is just the movie thread - not just old ones....maybe you're thinking of that other thread someone else started. Mine's the original and all encompassing one....kinda like this guy: http://www.peachridgeglass.com/wp-co...gosturaART.jpg |

 As I was.
Lebowski was mentioned before, but I think you need to see pretty much everything by the Coen bros. I think the best of the rest are Raising Arizona, Blood Simple, O Brother Where Art Thou and The Man Who Wasn't There. Barton Fink is best understood by people who 'get' writer's block. And Hudsucker Proxy is for fans of 40s & 50s films. Everyone seems to like Fargo, but I think it's just okay for a Coen bros effort. |

Oh, and I think you liked some of my offbeat suggestions before. I think Ghost World and Rushmore are pretty great if you're able to remember what life was like when you were in your teens.

Cate Blanchett has won the Oscar for best actress, for her role as a socialite unhinged by her husband's financial crimes in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine. "As random and subjective as this award is, it means a great deal in a year of, yet again, extraordinary performances by women," said the actress. Blanchett beat previous Oscar winners Sandra Bullock, Amy Adams, Judi Dench and Meryl Streep to win the coveted award.
EDIT: The video I embedded earlier has been removed to protect the copyright of the Academy Awards. Here's one that's still up... <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Z3wAnSKM45s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> She's at hottie at 44...hey the Aussies did pretty good last night! ;) |

An excellent movie. The roof scene when Clancy Brown almost threw Tim Robbins off the roof - then later they all had cold beers...that was a great part of the movie. And another amazing performance by Morgan Freeman. |
