electric trailer jack
Anyone know about them? Good idea or bad?
I have it in my mind they break a lot - but not sure why I think that. ??? It would go on my 24' Pace enclosed car hauler. Already have a battery, so installation would be a snap. But, if they cause more trouble than they're worth... Thanks, Skip

The ones on most camping trailers have a manual crank as well. For good reason. Mostly that you will run the battery down over the weekend using lights, etc. while camping.

I had one on both my race car haulers, mainly because after a long race weekend I was tired and did not feel like running that damned crank! Never had either one fail. They are rated at tongue weight so get one that can handle the weight easily.

I has this one:
Husky Brute Electric Trailer Jack - Drop Leg - A-Frame - 18" Lift - 4,500 lbs Husky Trailer Jack HT87247 5 years on the racing trailer, no worries yet. I had a couple 2500 #'ers, but they only lasted 2 yrs max.

I'm in the process of making one out of my regular screw jack that's driven by my electric impact driver. The original handle will fit back on it if/when I don't have the driver with me. I figure it'll cost me about $2.

I have an electric jack on my 26 foot bumper pull toy hauler. It is pretty nice to have but it EATS the batteries. Mine also doesn't have a manual crank on it, so if the batteries are dead you are SOL. I have a generator built into my trailer though so that whenever I am going to use the jack I just make sure the generator is running or the batteries are fresh.
I have found it handy, but I also didn't really mind the crank type one. If mine didn't have the electric one on it I wouldn't have added it I don't think (easy to say since its there already ![]() Bill |

Why wouldn't you just use a big mechanical jack? I have one that works so nicely on my equipment trailer, there is no question about even wanting an electric one.

I've got to replace my mechanical one. I figure if I'm going to buy a new one...
My alum. race jack won't lift the trailer tongue. Seems like Barker, Atwood & Bulldog are getting good reviews.

I am pretty sure mine is an Atwood, it has a light built into it.

Dropleg Jacks, Hydraulic Jacks, and Landing Gear
I would think about a 48000 drop leg jack. You can add an electric motor if that's your thing, but go with a good jack that wont break in the first place. Last edited by rusnak; 01-21-2014 at 03:13 PM.. |

I've had one on my car hauler for about 5 years. Never a problem with it. I have a 105 amp RV battery in the storage box on the trailer. It feeds the ele jack and the two winches mounted on the trailer. The jack has a alligator clip disconnect in the storage box so the power is off until I need it. It's one of the best investments I made for the trailer.

So why do you want to jack with an electric trailer?
