My Island Vacation

well I took a couple weeks to the islands, I had some time so I finished two projects, one an 18" tall Madonna and Child in Italian Marble, the week after It was finished I sold it, that was good. Selling is good.
Next I finished the Blue Marble carved like one of the Matisse series of Blue Nude. It's now in one of those kind of stores in Laguna Beach for sale. I sure hope it sells for close to what they are asking.
No picture of the Madonna but here are a couple of the finished Blue Marble, someplace between 250 and 300 lbs. In one picture you see my hands so you can see it's fairly large. It's carved on the rough side and shadowboxed in as a relief.
I used up, wasted, some carbide chisels and diamond tools on this it's sooooo hard. Close to Basalt hard.
The last picture is the final product sitting in the store.

Outstanding.

What was your thought process on the left forearm not having a similar radius. Pretty sure you did not forget. :-)

Is that a question you can ask an artist?

Are you using hand tools only, some power tools, perhaps even some CNC?

Nice stuff, what ever it takes to get the job done.

well the head is sharp, that edge is sharp and deep above that part of the arm, the top of the arm has the rounding, I rounded it off to the elbow, the right foot at the bottom has two sharp edges. and that edge of the lower arm was just too hard to get at. Lots of discussion but decided to leave it. If you buy it I will do whatever you want.

No CNC, air and electric though, some hand tools, lots of diamond sanding, carbide and diamond, used them up. Like end tackle when fishing, the tools I used on this are USED.

Nice stuff. Don't take this wrong but to me it looks like a female preying mantis biting her mate's head off just after having sex. They do that you know.

Looking good, Deano! Which island? We're heading to Poipu in a few days. I plan on commencing on a 24 hour ahi poke binge upon landing in Lihue.

Thank you all, and Lowyder, my oldest Christmas RS I think is from 86, either large or x large but it's a little tight these days, I think the dryer shrinks them. I resist buying them anymore and I tell my wife not to get me a new one. but then it happens.
Not sure if I shared this one, a copy of an Eagle wing feather, 18" long and weighs 3 1/2 lbs in bronze. I carved the thing in wax and poured the bronze. Then I did the same with a tail feather copy. yes, you can get good pictures of feathers on Istock.
