F1 First new car
Wow, Good looking new weapon. Some had been saying new cars would be ugly, but
I like the look of this one (so far)

This ^^^^ has a launch spec. nose, for the full ugly effect wait till they fit the proper race nose
I predict there are going to be a lot of ugly cars on the grid this year

Too bad. I was hoping with the narrowing of the front end that the cars look might benefit somewhat. But it seems ugly is it for this year.

Looks like quite a "plow" to the front floor portion, just below the large Royal Challenge logo.
Great for digging up lots of garden if you go off course, I would guess. They probably already had this on previous cars, I suspect. |

Yes it runs

???
They've had this level of ugly for years now. The last pretty cars were mid-90's. I'm surprised how little difference there appears to be from the 2013 spec. I know the engine is a radical departure, but I don't notice much of a difference in appearance. |

form follows function, and our taste in beauty follows behind that.

Narrower nose might lead to a few more passing attempts. Those big wide front plows are
kinda what I dislike the most about these recent F1 cars. But what do I know. |

The press is already *****ing about the "alien noses" and they are insisting something must be done to change them.

form follows function, and perception of beauty follows winning.
its pretty simple. in 1956, if you showed someone our wing ladden cars they'd say they looked like **** too. i think most of the cars posted in this thread, including the historical cars look like ****. so what? race cars most of the time look like ****, because they are designed to be fast, and nothing else. since when was F1 a beauty contest? **** that. this is racing, not americas next top model. Uglyness is 100% due to the nose legality rules and 100% due to maximising aero performance with in those rules.
To make the cars safer the FIA have changed the 2014 nose rules to try and reduce the chances of a following car riding up and over the back of the rear wheel of the car in front. Basically the FIA have lowered the minimum front cross section requirement and the teams have found ways within the rules to keep as much of the bulk of the nose as high as possible. A high nose with a potruding crash stucture section as seen on the Williams is all about smoothing out airflow under the chassis to the floor and to the rear diffuser for maximum downdorce and sadly nothing to do with looks. Sorry, but I think they are going to get worse ![]() Motorsport rules tell you what you CANNOT do, not what you CAN do. If you want to push to the edge of legality you should ask each question in such a way that you get the answer you want. I'm sure for next year the nose rules will be tightened so hopefully cars will look better.
