I've got issues, I want to restore an old truck.

I don't know what has happened to me over the last 10 years or so, but my fascination has shifted from sports cars to heavy equipment, and diesel trucks. My uncles were truck drivers when I was a little kid, and I can remember their trucks sitting in my grandparents driveway when we would visit. I think it left a lasting impression on me.
I'm thinking about a b model Mack. Hell, I may even put a rollback on it, and write it off as a business expense.
What is wrong with me?

Not sure, but I'd start with a CAT scan.

You have too much time and too much money.
But if you must, a Mack B is a good choice. Lots of new and reproduction parts are available. You ought to join the Antique Truck Historical Society Antique Truck Club of America and connect with some of the Mack guys there.

I have no time, and even less money, but boy do I like projects. It is what keeps me going in life.

You and me both. I started looking for a ~71 c10, then it was a c50, then there was a 50's dodge dump... Still like the idea of a decent c20.

Take the cab/sheet metal off and put it on a 350 pickup frame. Make a wicked rat rod out of it.

Sounds like fun to me. Though I'd go smaller, I really dig the '68-'72 C10 and Blazer.

A very wealthy guy local to me has a large collection of B's and others, including a chain drive Mack; he owns a road construction/quarry biz and its nostalgic for him. He has a couple open houses a year, p me if you want add'l info.

I guess you've heard the stories about how "manly" B Mack's are to drive. The issue with restoring them is the size of the tools, jacks, stands etc. and the general weight of eveything. Cool though.

Asphaltgambler,

I had a 72 GM 1 ton camper special I restored back when I was just out of college. Things were cheap and no one wanted those beat up old trucks. Then I started using it for my construction business and the guys beat the heck out of it but it held up fine. the motor finally went about 10-12 years ago. I couldn't give the thing away fast enough. I kick myself daily for doing that. I love the way they drive. Endless torque with that v8.

Put a badass Cummins in it, stretch it and slam it. It would be a very cool street rod/rat rod.

My ex bro-in-law did a B Mac a few years ago. Turned out nice. He's a trucker so he wrote the whole thing off.

I have a buddy that is looking for a project truck to do a rollback. Mice and squirrels got inside his motorhome and destroyed the interior. He bought it back from the insurance company with plans to strip the body off and put a old truck front over the engine (which has less than 50K on it) and frame. Old body, new motor/trans, suspension. Comfort and Cool he calls it.

A friend had this Mack pickup conversion a few years ago. It has a 500 cu in. Cadillac motor and front wheel drive. He has since sold the Mack. It was done very nice. Sorry, these are the only photos I have of this Mack.
