My '86 500 is red/white/blue, but if that bike were mine I would probably be trying to decide between the original white or possibly red with black/silver trim.

it isn't but tread 'direction' for m/c front tires seems counter-intuitive to me as well.

The rear tire mainly drives the bike forward and the greatest load on the front is in braking, so the loads are in opposite directions. If he wanted to get the best performance out of it in the rain, to move as much water from the tread area as possible, he might want to turn it around.

A two-tone black & white or a yellow & black like below would be cool.

I would skip the match helmet though.

A year or so ago, I saw pics of one which had been done up like a navy aircraft. That matt grey coloring with red warning notices and squadron and tail numbers. It was a work of art in itself.

Sorry, but I'm still drooling from the RC30...... Oh my.

I owned a 86 VFR in Pearl white, it was beautiful. Go back to stock.

Resurrecting an old thread. The shop who tipped over the bike and agreed to get it "ready to paint" was run by a schmuck/thief but they did get the plastics to my painter before they imploded. I had to walk in and "take" the bike during their "closing" sale. Luckily there were witnesses and the guy caved when I refused to pay a bogus bill. It was painted in 2014 and went into storage. The next project is to decide on graphics and get it running reliably. I'm leaning toward stock graphics with a few additions or substitutions. I have the original black seat, brand new condition. Here's how it currently sits. I had changed out the mirrors and need to go through that again. They busted one and stole the other.

I may be biased. The factory graphics were bold and subtle at the same time. I'd stay with that. Beautiful bike.

Red white and blue, gotta be.

+1 on the seat, that will look wrong no matter what color the bike is.

I think he already had it painted.

Looks good, Jerry. I had a '92 with the *one year only* black w/ silver rims, I loved it. I like how they had a different color scheme for each year back then.

Since we're talking color schemes, I really like this on my buddy's Ducati. It would work on other bikes, as well:

They were going to sell YOUR bike?

One of the highlights of my motorcycling experience was going out for a ride with some friends including one I didn't know real well who had an RC30. I had a highly modified '83 750 Intercepter at the time, a full on street legal superbike. When we came to a stop in the ride, he jumped off his bike and said, "I want to ride your bike". Which of course meant I was going to ride what was at the time the most incredible street bike on earth, The RC30! What great linear power but boy what a small bike for the time.

Bike went to a new "cool" indy that was doing work on older bikes that was recommended by a friend. The guy did repairs, restorations, was a ural dealer and sold bikes on consignment. His place was decked out. After they did the damage and agreed to repair it, it was winter and I was in no hurry and had free storage. I start to get nothing but radio silence on updates, hear rumors of them selling consignment bikes and the owners not getting paid, staff leaving, etc. I decide to go down there and they are "closed for inventory". This went on for several days and I track down the building owner who says he is worried and hasn't seen a rent check in a while. He says he'll check back and calls the next day to inform me they are going out of business and will open tomorrow to sell inventory and get bikes back to owners. I show up with a trailer. The place is full of people. The owner hands me a BS invoice trying to charge me for work they had agreed to do for free. I refuse to pay. He says he won't release the bike. I start going at him verbally with what a crook he is in front of 20+ people as my son rolls the bike out the door. He wrote paid on the invoice and we were done.
