Maine in March

Thank you upfront...

Headed to Maine mid-Mar after I graduate from NWC. Driving up from Newport. What should we consider?

Maine is a large state... do you already know where you intend to go? My absolute favorite area is near mt desert island, particularly southwest harbor. The mahoosucs are also great, as is baxter national park. The area near umbagog is also awesome, but it will be too early to do any canoe camping unless you are feeling brave.

Tishabet, good point. We will be in the southeast part of the state. Portland and coastal mostly.

Old port Portland is ok. I spent a lot of time as a kid in Boothbay; though more commercial it's still nice. Best lobster rolls in that area is in Southport at Robinson's Warf. Every one seems to go to Freeport for the outlets and LL Bean's.

Just outside of Rockland is the Owls Head Transportation Museum, Welcome to the Owls Head Transportation Museum, Celebrating Transportation History for over 37 Years , must see. I've only been there in the summer so check the schedule.

Another good auto museum is in Bass (or is it Seal) Harbor on Mt Dessert Island. Lots of brass era cars.

You do realize that it is still winter in Maine in March? Many of the resort type restaurants will still be closed. Dress warm.

Rot 911, yes, understood, but it's my only chance to visit before I move to the Center of the Universe.

Boston is a schit hole. I can't fathom why people live there.

Hard Drive:

I've been everywhere man...just like the Johnny Cash song. Columbus is the worst place I've EVER lived. Rudest people towards military that I've ever encountered.
