Seems like there are a few general camps of thought here but one seems to ring true, this site is attacting a very interesting crowd lately...

Do we represent a bellweather demographic?

When I joined 18,000+ posts ago the tone was very different...

Sure has changed since I started posting here.

I don't know what it was like 10 years ago, but I certainly could not be as far along with my car without the opinions shared in the technical forum. I'm a noob but try and share my experiences when it might be helpful.

What am I missing?

I have literally no idea what the title or first two sentences of the og post mean... could you state them again in English? I am but a simple caveman.

Here is the "diamond"..more desperation. It is not just here, but every where you go and every where you look.

Talked to a mortgage banker the other day. He said, "It is tough out there for every body/" He went on further and said that this is just like the 20' and 30's and he was afraid that what got America out of the Great Depression of the 30's that it would take world war to resurrect the American economy.

The stresses and strains of deficit and debt are so large that it is making the system creak and groan under the weight.

They've always been around but some of the "newer" more extreme members are most likely people who have been banned.

I believe this is true.

Also, the general atmosphere is more hostile with a number of members ready to pounce for no apparent reason other than than that's what they do...

Can be tedious.

There is a definite different tone in here. Been a lurker/occasional poster for about 10 years. Seems that things ,back when, were more relaxed and jovial with a good mix of auto related "stuff". Not so much now. Think I would agree with Tabs evaluation.

Sadly here and elsewhere people now believe that if someone doesn't agree with them then they must be an enemy. People's tolerance for diversity of opinions has disappeared.

I've been on this forum for almost 14 years. It's still a great place, I just have to work harder to ignore the haters than in the past.

This Porsche site is a lot more civilized and "adult" then some of the BMW boards I visit. Compare college to third grade kind of thing. The helpfulness here is great.

Agreed.......but shyte happens (at the speed of light, now) and this forum is not immune.
Still, I have yet to find a better OT forum. Most here (with the exception of myself.....I blame the 60s) have something besides air between their ears.

I'm a relative Noob as well.....my two cents, Politics and religion breed contempt.

That being said......I find myself drawn into the Left VS Right and does god exist threads as well, Wishing I had the willpower to steer clear of PARF all together.

I find PARF to be an amazing place. I have learned a lot there as I never would have believed that there are actually people out there posting "facts" that are so incorrect (on both sides). The propaganda is so strong on both sides that one could often take either side of the argument and point out serious flaws.

The big change, IMHO, is that everyone considers them self an expert on everything because they read a slanted Internet blog about the subject. Before, one had to read a book...and many obviously have not.

It used to be that anyone posting here...was here because they had a Porsche...and liked an OT/PARF diversion/news/etc. Now, many come because they googled some issue and a PP post popped up...and they stayed to debate.

It's your heightened level of self-awareness as you evolve into a higher level of conciseness.

Right now you are just below the level of Tom Cruise and are about to transcend to the next level of the Scientology pyramid.

I'm thinking that 2+2 does =5 because we are expanding at a rate beyond an exponential factorial...things are getting bigger.

I think the current forum is just a reflection of our current society. A lot of anger at times, no compromise at all and some members always in attack mode.

So one can conclude that there are more quality people to draw on and also more ...let's put it this way nere do wells, abusers , antagonists and rowdies. Us Canadians have a reputation of being too nice to be in any of the last three categories. Some might disagree!:)

Don't worry, it's the weather. You guys are all housebound and suffering from cabin fever. Tabs for instance is usually cruising the buffets, but instead is on the gin and tonics as his staple diet.

U forget that one lives in the temperate climate in the American SW, and as such there is no such thing as being housebound...except in the frkin summer...Also one does not indulge in libation nor any other substance that alter ones conscious state.

So gentlemen let us disabuse ourselves of that notion and stick to a perceived reality that there is more to it than meets the eye.

Well that eliminates the most reasonable cause of the nature of your posts....sigh.
