That building won a lot of architecture awards, I really hope for the best outcome.

Such a weird incident.

Coming from primarily a Porsche crowd, is there something symbolic here?

Perhaps the floor gave way under the weight of their extensive gold chains display?

The time and effort designers and engineers and production folk put into those cars is amazing and to have them suffer is actually sad

I hope HardDrive is just kidding about being happy that some rare Corvettes fell into the sinkhole. I may love Porsches and I may never personally want to own a Corvette, but if I ever find myself in that part of Kentucky, I would enjoy going to the Corvette museum. Besides my interest in all things mechanical, some of the more exotic Corvette models had a little bit of European engineering in them. My son owned a 1991 Corvette ZR-1 for a couple of years. That model Corvette had a Lotus-designed four cam 32 valve engine that featured Mahle pistons and rods, Vandervell bearings, Bosch injectors, a German-made ZF 6 speed manual transmission, and a double mass flywheel. And, when you wound up that 5.7 litre V8 to north of 7,500, it made an amazing sound and put out some great power. Granted, the interior looked a little cheesy and dated, but it still was a great car.

Yes, widen, other sinkholes in other parts of the building and so forth.

Odd that the hole is in the middle of the floor like that, it doesn't seem random.

Typically soil borings are limited to the building's corners and where you expect to put the foundation. With no foundation in the middle of this cone shaped room there would have been no reason to do a test bore right there.

Still, if it happened one place, I'd be weary of adjacent spaces (underground springs/rivers). Lots of recent innovations in ultrasounds for geologist, maybe they will call one in to help the structural engineer.

I'm not a Corvette guy, but do appreciate all cars. That picture is pretty sad. It's also pretty scary, that's one hell of a hole that seems to extend beyond the collapse area.

Sink holes in Kentucky! WTH! Too close to home. I thought they were confined to florida. Oh well.

Sounds like a possible insurance nightmare. A clear case of "act of god".

Just poking fun.

Its a shame to see the damage. A lot of people put a lot of sweat into making that museum. Lots of effort on the cars as well. Shows you just how unpredictable life can be.
