Stir-fried rice
Thought I'd start a thread on my Mitsubishi Evo. I mentioned a while back in some other thread that this car had fallen into my life, it was kind of an unplanned pregnancy in that I've never known that I wanted one but here we are.
![]() It's a 2006 Evolution IX MR edition which is quite a desirable model in Evo land. It has Aluminum fenders/hood/roof and trunk lid, plus a 6-speed and big Brembo brakes and a lot of other nice parts. It was bought new by a buddy who modded the living snot out of it but never really drove it much, (16k miles), I was helping him remove all of the aftermarket parts to return it to stock to sell and kind of fell for the thing. ![]() When I say that it was heavily modified, I mean everything was changed. Different turbo/intake/TB/cams/valve springs/intercooler/radiator/fenders/lights/seats/wheels and much more that I cannot even recall. The interior and all unnecessary parts were removed for weight, (these cars are fairly heavy), and all stock parts were shrink-wrapped and put on the shelf. It had Japanese OEM lights and bumpers, wider factory front fenders, a CF trunk lid, CF drive shaft, every Japanese part imaginable and featherweight w/ ~500 hp. It was a rocket. But never really driven much. The PO is a big MC track guy and not really all that into cars, likes building them more than driving them, I think. Soooo...I'm in the final stages of assembling what will once again be a (mostly) stock '06 Evo with 16k miles. The interior was all in plastic on the shelf and basically new. There are a few aftermarket parts still on it like Quaife diffs, a heads-up display and brake rotors, maybe a few other small things. I am also leaving the Japanese OEM rear bumper on because it looks so much better than the U.S.A. one, but I have both. I've heard these cars are fun, really anxious to drive it. I need to switch cams and intake back to stock, get ECU reflashed to stock and get it smogged. Here are some pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Drove one when they were new. I thought it was terrific but was really boy racer-ish and I was worried about reliability. The MR's were as good as those cars got!! Color me jealous!! More re-assembled pics please!

Never even rode in this thing but went canyon carving with him once when I had my modded 996. It hung reeeealy good. Very fast car.

It will be interesting to see what you think of it once it's all driveable.
Just a thought... Maybe research tracker type (anto thieft) recovery devices for the car. I don't know about where you live but around here these cars are stolen by boy racers at a phenomenal rate. They had a sting on TV where they parked one in Auckland's city park and kept the cameras on it. Boy racers were stopping and looking at it then a few hours later someone had stolen it and it was tracked to a stripping down workshop. |

Thanks...yeah, it will be kept under lock and key. As in, not left outside. Luckily, I have a couple of really secure places to park a car.
It's also fully insured. |

Looks like it has license plates. With the modifications you describe, it certainly would never pass smog. That sort of thing is amusing to me.
Between this and the Scirrocco, you are all set with groovy little cars.

Now in 993 land ...
|
Coworker had one. I had rides in it. Impressive machine. The 993 could barely hang with it in the straights, if that. Not a good track car from what I have seen at track days - just too high a center of gravity, really.
The closest I have gotten to drive such a car myself was my Mazdaspeed3. What a hoot to drive. But horrible torque steer. That should be a lot better in the Evo. You'll have to be careful not to rack up speeding tickets - they come on the turbo and off it goes > 60 mph in no time. Have fun with it. G |

Ok. How much money would it take to buy the car (of course this is assuming no big issues with condition and function)? Thanks.

My plan is to finish putting the car back to stock with the exception of a few small performance mods like the Quaife difs and maybe a mild performance tune on the ECU. i look forward to driving it and enjoying it some but probably will sell it before too long simply because it's too nice and valuable to thrash the way that these cars are really enjoyed, IMO.
I think I'd rather have a WRX wagon as a fun/snow car, preferably one that's beat-up a little. This Evo is a creampuff. It's been been in bed under the covers for the last 2 or 3 years. I think that it's worth in the mid-$20s from what I've heard. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice find. This and the WRX STi are 2 cars certain to skyrocket in value in the next 15 years. These are the cars every high school kid wanted 10 years ago. When those guys turn 45-50, they will pay whatever it takes to buy an unmolested, low-mile, original paint example. Those will be (already are) rare since most were highly modified, wrecked, and/or abused. A friend has a like new never-sold-in-the-USA Tommi Makinen Edition (considered the ultimate Evo by most) tucked away in his garage

Curt, that seems to be the deal. And while I don't know the Evo history very well, I looked at the Wiki page and some of those earlier ones that were only sold in Japan are super cool. I actually got a good collection of Japanese Evo magazines and some rally DVDs with the car that I will have to check out.
I've also been told the same thing in regards to stock/unmolested and low miles. Here is my exact car, (but brand new), on eBay. Not sure if he'll get this price but maybe? ![]() New Evo 9:

Those get wrecked badly often from what our instructor at thunder hill said. He said they make you feel like schumi, until aren't, at which point you are going so fast that when you bite it, you total it.
Good for the value of yours though! ![]() |
