911 delimma. This is what I get for doing my own work...

Pls see post in Tech Forum. Hoping someone here might have some ideas. Thanks. Spent my birthday adjusting valves, replacing plugs, wires, rotor, etc. What a PITA. Now it won't run. Was very, very careful. Hoping its something simple/stupid!

Troubleshooting help after tune-up. 3.2 Carrera

I just answered:

Timmy2 has the key to the castle. You can't make up your own firing order 123456!!! The cylinders are named by location, not by firing order. The firing order is set with the timing of the valves and a fixed order that you MUST follow. Car will never run if you don't.

The cap can only go on one way. Make sure the wires are going to the correct corresponding cylinders. OEM wires have numbers on them. If you don't have numbers on them, label them for sanity on both ends.

Hope this helps!!! I'd be over for a cold beer if you were closer to help. It happens to the best!

Rotated to TDC and installed #1 plug wire at notch in dizzy. Went around with std firing order, hit the key and she purrs like a kitten. Cold beer is waiting. But I may drink it all before you arrive!

It's always those &#*%+@? plug wires, isn't it?

Glad you got it sorted out......and congrats on the valve job, Mike!

Choc, beware the Clewetts in a wet environment. There are some threads from several years back about the way they are sheathed and sealed on the ends. I believe they have fixed the problem, but the sheaths would wick moisture into the dizzy because they tucked it into the rubber boots.

Got it. Thanks. It's a fair weather car anyway! Really glad to be back in a 911 (although I wasn't at midnight last night while it was still running like shat)!

Sooo I guess I won't be getting a visit from the tow truck tomorrow ? Good job.
Is the valve train alot quieter? So did it sound like the valves need adjusting?

Charlie...yes, to a fault, they were all loose. I spent "hours" getting them adjusted precisely (didn't want to have to re-do anything). Although there's faint clatter, it's much quieter than before so yes, your ears were spot-on. Cathy and I went for a spirited drive today with the Targa top off. Pulls hard right to red-line with nary a skip. Very pleased.

But...that hard line going to the T-stat is still weeping on the new S-hose. I will leave that one to you...one of these days! No tow truck yet. If I can slip out, I'll come by the shop and let you have a listen.
