Anybody tried Rocksmith for learning guitar?

Anybody tried Rocksmith for learning guitar?

I've tried various methods for learning guitar and have never made it beyond intermediate beginner level. Just wondering if this would help...

I have Rocksmith and find it is good for exercising the fingers and getting back into a groove after I have not picked up my guitar for a while. There are some good games and drills included.

It is kinda like Guitar Hero, but you use a real guitar and you have to hit the real notes. I seem to remember that I got mine on a Amazon gold Box deal for something like $40 including cable.

I bought it for my kids. They kept picking up my guitars and thought it would be a better option than Guitar Hero. Within a few hours of setting it up, they were playing basic Stones songs.

I wouldnt rely on it solely to learn guitar, but it's a great instructional tool.

Make sure you have a good TV with HMDI compatibility as the audio signal can fall out of sync with the video.

Seriously, I would just find a decent, live teacher. Hell, I can refer you to some guys depending on what type of music you're interested in playing.

I found it on clearance at walmart for $20, but really havent had time to mess with it. Seems like it would be good for working on technique though...

Garage band also has a really cool -free instructional section. You can also buy songs played and taught by the artist, like Sting Roxanne, etc.

Rocksmith is cool, I like the mini games, they're great as exercises. I just started with it a couple days ago so I'm not sure how it will be once it figures out what my correct difficultly level is.

Another nice thing is it is a great way to try out effects and amp combos before you buy. Rocksmith costs $60, that's less than most practice amps and you get a lot more features.

My go-to online resource is Guitar Tabs With Rhythm | Songsterr. The free version runs the TAB along the page as the music plays, so you can follow along. Anything you want to learn will be on there or Youtube. If you were closer, I'd be happy to give you some pointers. If it's just learning songs, scales, chords, etc, you can do that online. If you need to learn techniques, I can show you just about anything except how to use a slide.

Hmm, call me crazy, but do I see an opportunity for the Phx gang to meet on a regular basis for guitars lessons and hang out? Heck, I bet my son would like it, too. And if my son goes, it's nearly guaranteed that Aaron joins. Right Blue?

I have both the first Rockmsith and the new one, 2014.
The first one was a little clunky, but pretty good overall. WORLDS ahead of Rock Band, even with the "pro" guitar controller that Fender put out.

The new 2014 edition is much better than the first one, even. The "Session Mode" alone, Id say, is a very nicely added feature. It allows to create an A.I band, pick the key, grooe, etc, and jam with it, showing you the scales along the way. I'm digging that quite a bit.
There's quite an extensive chord library and chord-skill building games. Chords have always been my weakest point.

One point about the Audio -- do NOT use HDMI for the audio... route it directly to a stereo input, no processing, and you'll get less lag than if you use your TV audio.

Overall, it is very good. Well worth the price of admission. I would pick it up, get the kids playing it, and see how they do. If they take to it, THEN put them in lessons with a teacher... or not at all, if they progress quickly.

Unless you've finally beaten the funny bone out of him, I'm always available to serve as audience to his antics.

BTW, I'll be at the Motoring Thru Time show again in Feb. I'll have a guitar, amp, and looper with me to keep myself occupied while sitting around all day.

I currently rank #13 on Xbox Live in the Arcade game "Scale Racers" with a score of 3,711,600. Tough to get any farther than that.
Some dude called "AsmashedPumpkin" is sporting a score of 35,343,500 on the leaderboards.

I struggled to get a 3+mill score. I'd like to watch that guy in action sometime.

I have to give Rocksmith 2014 two thumbs up. I've played around with a few songs, but mostly working on Spirit of Radio. It says I'm at about 54% proficiency at this point, but I'm amazed at what it's taught me so far. I'm able to play way more of this song than I ever thought I would.

Software is pretty cool. About the time you're getting good at a song, it makes it just a little harder, throwing in more notes and chords.

Also found out that you can buy additional songs. I just bought the Rush 5 song package. May be years before I get them all down, but I'm having fun!
