Bowling

Any bowlers (league or tournament)? A little bowling talk would be cool.

Went bowling this past weekend. We rented a semi-private space with 6 lanes and catered in food/drinks for 4 hours. This was for my MIL's 80th bday party. I broke 100 for the first time ever and ended up with 132. My MIL bowled a couple of strikes and a few spares. How many 80 year olds can do that! Put my ass to shame.

I occasionally enjoy bowling, but it's usually with a bunch of buddies, and mostly an excuse to drink beer. A typical night of bowling goes something like this.

0 beers- below average
Half a beer- decent bowler
1-2 beers- doing pretty good, several marks on the board
3 beers- damn, I'm pretty good at this, lots of high fives
4.7 beers(or somewhere around there, it's a fine line)- WTF! Another strike, and another it's like a KFC commercial on the board, I'm unbeatable!
4.8 beers- damn a gutter ball there goes my strike record.
5 beers- holy hell I'm terrible at this. Oh well, I'll have another beer.
6+ beers- can someone get that dinosaur ramp thing and put those bumpers out?

OK, I'll admit to it. I am a bowler.

It all started a few years back. My wife and her business partner were in a Women's league for a few years. I would occasionally go to the lanes with my wife when she was practicing. I rented shoes and scrounged around through the ball racks until I found something that fit my fingers. That changed when my wife gave me a gift certificate for Christmas for the pro shop at the lanes. Soon, I had my own ball fitted for me and my own pair of shoes. It helped my game a bit for our occasional outings.

Then, one day my wife asked me if I wanted to join a mixed league along with her business partner and her partner's husband. We are now in the middle of our third season in this league. We bowl on Wednesday nights. Since I work from home, I actually look forward to bowling night since it is often the only time I leave the house every week.

Currently, my average is ~170. I am usually pretty consistent in my scoring. Last night I had a 524 series (172,174,178). But, occasionally I have flashes of brilliance. My high game this season was a 256. I had a 244 last week.

That is smokin! Over Thanksgiving with the family, I rolled a 205, and backed it up with a 178. First time bowling in probably 10 years. I used to roll 200+ a lot when I was 19-20, but I think 225 or so was the best ever. Thinking about joining the league here in Montana as a sub.

Good stuff! Bowling is my other hobby besides the 911. I have been league bowling with the same group of guys 13 years. I highly recommend joining a league. A little competition is fun and I really enjoy the rivalries that have developed over the years.

My highest score was 201 back in the 80's. Now we (2-3 couples) bowl maybe 3 times a year and have a blast. IMO it's one of those things like golf where if you get too intense about the score you miss out on all the fun. My normal score is between 120-140 depending on my beer intake.

Our local Eagle AMF lanes has a Rock and Roll night session that is super fun. Beer, bowling, classic rock hits blasting on the sound system, and neon lighting. 2 hrs for $10/person. Good times!

Bowled in a league in elementary school. would walk across the street from Perry Hall Elem. to the lanes in a shopping center. Loved it and miss it. The sounds of the alley, crappy pizza....it was a great place. Haven't done much since then though.
