Article on My GF's business

My GF Annette has been vegan for a bunch of years and with her sister started a biz last year preparing and selling high quality plant based meals. It's done so well that she is leaving her corp veep job to take it full time this fall. Pretty cool to watch a business be born and see it grow and thrive. She works harder than anyone I've ever seen on this and it shows. I'm really proud of her!

Very cool! I've been vegetarian for almost 25 years and haven't regretted it for a single day. Good on her for taking something that she believes in (and makes sense) and making something of it! I totally agree that one of the biggest problems facing our health today is over-produced, over-processed, devoid-of-nutrition "food".

She's probably heard this before but I'll share a favorite quote of mine for inspiration:

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for the survival of life on earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet".
---Albert Einstein

What is so much fun about this PPOT is this kind of stuff: You two must have a joyful life.

The sisters look pleased, as they should be.

My wife is a very talented cook and we have begun to move towards a more vegetarian life-style: But everything in moderation!

Good for her Mark! Awesome!!! Well done...
There is overwhelming evidence that a vegan diet will increase your life span drastically - not sure if it is because of the elimination of certain toxins from flesh, reduced fat, reduced caloric intake (vegans tend to be mindful of portions as well as quality) or all the above.

Sounds like a solid business, I'd use it if it was here. I am not a vegetarian but eat a lot of healthy/vegan food anyways. So there is a market beyond just people who are already vegan or vegetarian. Most people could benefit from eating more healthy food even if they still eat some unhealthy stuff as well.

I think of Texas as such a beef/ranching state, do they get some ribbing for being vegan?

I have been trying to get my wife to try vegan but she is old school.
Congratulations to your wife Mark.

Denis - Austin has a huge veg/vegan culture and Dallas has a growing one. Some people say "I could never go without meat" and don't realize like you have that you can temper your diet by eating plant based meals sometimes. My diet is 70% plant based and I'm comfortable there. Both girls are very fit, so that kind of short stops the ribbing...

Scott - Have your wife go to the website Ohsheglows.com. Lots of really good recipes and ideas. Oh, and Annette and I aren't married. I'm much too old for her (-;

I got taken to a vegan restaurant on Friday night. The food was good, but would have been excellent with some chicken thrown in.

Or bacon......Pretty much sums up my experience with vegan food......and don't get me started on that stuff the call 'cheese'.

With my current lift routine, I'm eating 230-250g protein per day, about a third of that comes from various plant proteins, including a sprouted/raw shake mix that I use before lifting because it's so easy on the stomach.

Very cool to see a small biz be successful....IME, the biggest threat is burnout. Make sure she takes time off at reasonable intervals.

I've had some very tasty vegan meals. I wouldn't want to give up the delights of dead animals, but I would go to a vegan restaurant now and then.

HHI944 - Your post reminds me of my son-in-law. He's 6'7" and I have no idea how much he weighs, but he is solid. He has a gym in his garage, coaches and lifts regularly. For breakfast he eats 8-12 eggs and half a pound of bacon. No bread, no sugar, not much fruit. He lives on protein and simple, non-wheat carbs. Last year he ate 2 quart-sized bowls of this rice & buffalo burger concoction he makes up AFTER Thanksgiving dinner. He's a machine!

Einstein never said that....not even close. Someone either made it up or really poorly translated German.

Here is a real quote:

"Although I have been prevented by outward circumstances from observing a strictly vegetarian diet, I have long been an adherent to the cause in principle. Besides agreeing with the aims of vegetarianism for aesthetic and moral reasons, it is my view that a vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind." Translation of an Einstein letter to Hermann Huth, December 27, 1930.

Time to pick a new quote......

Which is why she will not use any GMO and uses organic when available.
