House of Cards

I watched the first season over the holidays.
I thought it was entertaining.
Anyone else?

Yep. Really great! Here's Kevin Spacey on the future of TV series.

Great show. It is *exactly* how I imagine Washington functions.

It is a great series. It casts politicians as the cynical and self-dealing actors on a small stage (DC) that perfectly fits my life-impression of that class. Can't wait for the new season!

I hadn't realized until recently that it's a remake of a british miniseries, which was adapted from a novel.

I just finished watching season 2, which did not disappoint. The fact that it is filmed in Baltimore adds to the cool factor (for me) since that is my hometown. They actually filmed a few scenes on the street where I grew up (the episode when Russo went home to Philadelphia). To the series' credit, other than Fells Point, most of the backdrops are generic enough that it is difficult to identify Baltimore landmarks.

I'm on season two episode 4. ***SPOILER**

I hope they explain why they have a video of the girl going in front of the metro but they don't have one 5 seconds earlier when she standing by herself and obviously talking with someone behind the curtain. That made no sense at all.

I'm 9 episodes in and trying not to watch too fast. I like being able to watch as fast as I like but it will be months before season 3 comes out so it will be hard to wait.

GREAT season so far

IMO, House of Cards is the hallmark of this new "golden era" of TV everyone's talking about. It's probably the best TV watching I've ever seen. Well scripted, impeccably acted, characters with depth and really unsuspecting plot turns, coupled with the freedom to kill off main characters.

"we wanted to tell a story that would take a long time to tell. We were creating a sophisticated, multi-layered story with complex characters who would reveal themselves over time, and relationships that would need space to play out".

That right there is what makes these new kinds of shows so good. No longer do they have no pre-determined ending in sight, which necessitates each episode ending with everything back at square one. Main characters can die, they can take new jobs, move to different cities, change their core beliefs, whatever - things can evolve, like they do in the real world.
