Early 911 for sale!

This week's WTF car...I know that early, SWB 911s are a niche within a niche but fk me running.

Check the rust situation very carefully:

He's not a scammer. He's just reeeeeaaaallly hard to do business with. A little eccentric.

He really has/had the cars.

Those really early cars are super-desirable right now. I am a little surprised there aren't bids up to six figures. And another six figures for complete rustoration. You might actually make money on that kind of deal.

The bidding right now is $5k more than PWD sold his 50k mile, concours original paint '72 911S for.

It's conceivable that the seller paid $500 for this car. He could have been given it for free. I bought a '65 912 in identical condition once for $50.00.

No wonder Paul left the forum. I would hate to see it rubbed in your face that you sold it too soon, although in his case, he hated seeing what money did to hobby.

On that note, I forget the name, but there is a site that archived old web pages. It is ridiculous to see vendors tripling the prices of their services because the values of cars have gone up. Has their quality increased 3x?

Every now and then I hear a great American speech that has the line "I have a Dream." That popped in my head here.

My most recent G50 3.2 purchase took a long time--those cars have suddenly completely disappeared. My biggest fear is that it will become "too valuable to drive." Gotta rack up those miles before that happens.

BTW, I was in Savannah GA last week and saw an orange longhood that was so gorgeous it practically made my eyes bleed. To his credit, the guy was just tooling around the historic downtown on a beautiful Sunday morning. Good on him.

I can't imagine just letting the car sit in the garage. The joy with these cars is the driving. I suppose if it were a one-off piece of automotive history, I might feel differently. Maybe something like a 959 - I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable just driving around, knowing that a soccer mom my use her minivan to destroy the car at any time.

I guess before that happens, I better start digging in my yard for cans of gold coins.

a few tidbits re Paul's car - Paul was involved in the Porsche world decades ago - mid-1970s IIRC When I visited him with M.D. he mentioned that back then everybody did everything - i.e. concours, rally, races, etc.

his car had a scratch on it - and he kept it there as proof that he drove it"

and he could have sold it for much much more, but realizing that money is not the measure of all things and having enough to not have to worry about it, he sold it to a young friend of his in Turkey

maybe part of that was the politics in Portland where most of the money in this state resides; maybe it was the "collector/flipper" type of person attracted to expensive things that get more expensive over time

if he comes back, he can speak for himself - I just don't want playful fun-poking or nasty comments to obscure the facts

This one just ended on EBay with a starting asking price of 15K...chassis # 302935

"This is a Chassis that I have had for 30 years. I recently contacted Porsche and found that this 66 model car was delivered on December 26, 1965. They also told me the original engine was number 903162. This is one of the last cars built before the end of the 1965 year. The original exterior color was black. The interior was also black and it did have hounds tooth seat inserts. I do not have the original engine or transmission. This 911 Coupe has a clear Arizona title."

If any of you guys have the bucks, I have #310274 for sale. It's either the second or third sunroof 1965 911, according to Internet Anecdotes.

It is a bare shell with rusted passenger side floor, fenders and quarters cut for turbo flares and no seats, engine or transmission. On the other hand, it's only $60,000. (It does come with donor fenders & quarters, so there's that.) The original engine may be floating around out there... Kardex image comes with the car.

What ??? $70+K is the current bid with less than an hour to go. This sort of thing reminds me of the real estate bubble of a few years ago. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it would bring the $70K plus cost of restoration when it comes time to sell it - however I/we have been plenty surprised before. Maybe it will be worth something like a quarter million.

The rumor mill says a 1965 911 sold for $400K within the last 10 days. There's one in Europe for sale now at 260K Euro, or $357K at today's exchange rate.

We (all of us in the search/referral business) are having to recalibrate our price targets weekly.

The RS coming up for sale in a few days at Amelia Island is rumored to have a standing bid of $1.2 million, and it's anticipated it could go higher. The RS is the magnet pulling the prices up...

WOW....The price on that 65 911 is justified in the sense that it is AN ORIGINAL CAR WITH ALL THE PARTS still being there..so it is restorable and I have to imagine that finding one of those is like find a chicken with teeth.

Then we agree on something!

I coined a phrase back in my bad ole days on the Early Registry...

"God and Ferry Porsche rested in 1974..."

Is it remotely possible that a mid year ROW will ever see that sort of pop?
