1959 220SE Sunroof Coupe

Has not been roadworthy for many years. The car was painted 40 years ago. We put a ZF tranny in too on the floor. Sending the injection pump to Fairchild and start driving the car, Oh yeah my Dad bored it from a 2.2 to a 2.4

25 years ago my wife and I were following my Mom and Dad, they were driving "this" car, had a right rear blowout on old ****ty tires, no jack, no spare and no lug wrench. After many hours we made it to Palm Desert, the next day we had to go look for that missing piece of chrome 40 miles away. We never found it, but we did risk our lives on the I-10

Nice car.

Stick some big whitewalls on it.

We have a 57', sunroof as well, same exterior color, red interior.

My brother has a shipping container full of parts in FL. If you need something let me know. May have it.

My dad has a '53 170-SV, and also has a sunroof car as well but it was hit by lightning and caught on fire.

For some reason I've always been attracted to the old '50s, basic, 4 dr. sedan, MBs. I always thought it'd be a cool car to use for going to the grocery store, post office, etc. There is s guy around where I live who has an old, 4 dr. sedan painted a sort of robin's egg blue on the bottom & cream on the top. Some day I might ask if he has ever considered selling it.

Just make sure its a 220SE not 220S, fuel injection vs. carbs, runs much better.
Coupe vs. Sedan much more desirable,

Some old guy was talking about them. I was looking for 911E stuff.

Something about how the MFI works. It dilutes the oil with fuel. No idea if it's true or not.

The pump has its own sump, but yes the oil can get diluted with lots starts and stops.
Great running engines, sewing machine like.

Great looking car, love the old Benzes. You might add "new hood prop rod" to your shopping list.

The hood stays open on its own, this gizmo allows for a bit more room.

Oh wow, just plain wow ! I am envious and that don't happen a lot. I've had a couple of Pontoons, both were sedans a 180 & a 219. Ran the 180 (4 cyl) for many years as a daily driver and it never missed a beat. Sold the 219 for a hundred bucks more than I paid for it a week later. Mind you, this was 35 years ago. The 219 sheet itself a month after the sale and the guy had to replace the engine...spun a main bearing...as best that I can recall. Thanks for posting the pics.. My very best to you. Looks the the 220SE is in good hands.

All class and thanks for sharing. Studebaker dealers were some of the early MB sales agencies.

Spotted in the Godfather 2 next to the Packards.
IMCDb.org: 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Coupé [W128.037] in "The Godfather: Part II, 1974"

(we had the same period Packards -3 conv.- forgotten in one of the family barns)
