Mrs. Motion Wants a 997

Somebody pinch me... So, we're shopping around a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing her in a 996TT, but I know the 997 is a better car. A 430 Spider would be even better, but not a good daily driver. The investor in me cringes at the depreciation scenario. Is having a hottie blonde wife driving a newish 911 really worth it? I mean, is the satisfaction of that worth the depreciation hit? I'm thinking yes.

If depreciation really bothers you, how about a 993?

Just as badass looking, great A/C and will hold its value. Mine did.

We already have a 993. I like the investment upside, but she needs a more refined DD.

997s seem to be on a pretty slow depreciation curve, depending on the year. Older ones might be near the bottom already. What are you worried about?

If you can afford it, my vote is yes! Look for a car that has very low mileage on it, so that some other schmoe already paid for at least a small chunk of the depreciation. Then enjoy!

Some questions for you.
Whose idea was it to look for a 997 or 996tt?
Are you buying it so you can drive it too?
Do you really want to spend that much money?
Will you and your wife get that much satisfaction from spending that much?
I would not want a car that draws that much attention to my wife especially if she was driving alone.
I prefer a car or suv that sits higher off the ground for my wife.
Let her drive your 993 to see if that is the kind of car she would like.
Don't make the decision for her. You may regret it later. I have done that myself.
G.

I just had my 997 out today for the first time in about 2 months. They really are good daily drivers. Very comfortable.

I agree with this (assuming you can afford it). It has worked well for me for the last 54 years (even when I couldn't afford it).

Best,

Tom
