I don't care about his acceptance speech.

I do care about him continuing to play great characters in the ilk of his current portrayal of Rust Cohle on True Detective. It's fantastic.

I think actors should act and not make speeches.

Thankfully, you were not there to see Brando reject the Godfather Oscar, in rejection of Hollywood racism.

Marlon Brando's Unfinished Oscar Speech
"On March 27, 1973, a young Indian woman named Sasheen Littlefeather took the stage during the Academy Awards to decline Marlon Brando's Best Actor Oscar for The Godfather."

I heard all about the oscars for the past several days. Didn't want to hear about it but it was unavoidable.
I heard all about the oscars this morning too. Didn't care or want to hear about the oscars but it was all over the news and radio.
What was avoidable was watching the darn show, which I did avoid.

Obviously other people watched the program.

BTW McCona-hay is good friends with that bike riding lying POS drug cheater.
Doesn't surprise me.

I heard Mcconaughey in an interview on NPR. He was all over the place. I couldn't keep up.

I saw that, it may have been the last time I watched that program.
I doubt they care if I watch or not, a white hetero male is not exactly their target audience.

Thanks for that link, Enzo.

Just watched it and I liked it.

Us odd ducks have to stick together I guess....

That was not such a bad acceptance speech. In watching that 3 minute clip, I think I doubled the amount of time I have spent watching the Oscars show in the last 30 years, probably a little more than doubled.

I thought he was more bald than that. Guy on the radio today said that Jared Leto was a prettier chick than Ellen DeGeneres, which I found more than somewhat amusing.

It was on in the background for awhile, didn't really listen to his speech. If you live in LA and are at all connected with the industry (that is about 250K people), then it is somewhat unavoidable. At the west LA farmers market yesterday morning the table next to me was talking about it (their agency handled the Argo PR campaign last year), and my next door neighbor (producer) had an oscar-viewing party. My star-f****** days were back in '05 when I dated a woman who was tight with the Gyllenhall family. Was at Jake's pre-Oscar party up in the hills, and Calvin got to play dominos with Penelope Cruz at his b-day party. Different times now - while I'm peripherally in "the industry" I stay out of the fast lane...

So what was his speech, and why was it 'controversial'?
I don't have tv.

Mainly because people did not understand what he was saying...

TV not required, you can watch it online. A link was posted above for your convenience.

I was hoping for the Cliffs Notes version.
Oh well (sigh).

john70t 03-03-2014 03:35 PM

Thank you.
Now, I'll walk to the back of the "don't understand" line.

Finally got around to actually watching the speech.

He was a little disjointed, but I liked his message about chasing his hero and his hero being himself in 10 years. I didn't take that as self-indulgent, I saw it as his motivation to keep improving himself everyday.

Alright, alright, alright

creaturecat 03-03-2014 04:29 PM

I didn't lose any sleep over it.
"Prick" may have been too strong of word to use.
I will always be curious as to what Bruce Dern might have said.
