Seems like the better the actor the less original they are. They can spew other folks lines but there is little original thinking...I could be wrong cuz I normally is...

No - you hit the nail on the head.

Anyone can say I'd like the thank x, y, and z.

MM is an original.....and that's something to always respect and admire.

Cool pic, Denis!

He won an award.
He thanked god.
He missed his dead father.
He expresses hopes to become a better actor in the future.

I'm really confused.

Why is this a PP thread of 'controversy'?
Why is this even a thread?

The Oscars were on in the background at my house, so I actually missed McConaughey the first time. However, prompted by this thread, I decided to go back and watch his speech. I'm with you, I don't get what all the stink was/is about. I didn't read too much into what he had to say. I don't know him as a person, but I like him as an actor. And I thought he gave a great performance in Buyers Club...

Agreed. No big deal. I give him props for taking the chance in "re-branding" his career...turning his back on the standard Kate Hudson chick flick schlock he was beginning to be a staple of (which could have made him a fortune) for something with more bite. Lincoln Lawyer, Mud, True Detective; all good stuff.

He'll always be Wooderson to me though.

Some people thought he was narcissistic and "his own hero" when he talked about chasing what he would become in 10 years time. I think they failed to grasp what he was saying.

I actually thought it was one of the better speeches I've heard on the Oscars lately. It seemed well thought out, he thanked the right people (rather than a list of everybody he's ever worked with) and he left out politics. Win, win.

"Prick" may have been too strong of word to use.
I will always be curious as to what Bruce Dern might have said.

Dern was on Bill Maher last Friday and started rambling almost incoherently. I don't think he understood the format of the show.

2. He wants to thank God, who he looks up to. God is all about gratitude.

Frankly, I really couldn't care less about this particular subject.
I'm more curious about what makes humans tick.
