eBay auction alert: NICE '70 Volvo 144 - 15 hours left

52.5K original miles......beautiful and very clean example!

Volvo Other 2 Door | eBay

I'd buy it in a heartbeat but don't have any room for it.

A 144 isn't as high up on my preference as a 142 or better yet a 145s but heck considering the condition this one is in.....and how rare the 140 series cars are....this is a heck of a find!

These cars have 4 wheel disc brakes - rack and pinion steering (very tight turning radius).

Only downside on this one is the automatic transmission.

They are fun to shift! I've owned 2 of the 145's but never the sedan.

Auction is up to 5,800.17 reserve not met - BIN at $8K. Located in Oyster Bay, NY.

I have no affiliation other than loving these cars.

Dashpots and an automatic. Yeah, typical Volvo fun.

I've owned that model, along with most other Volvos, and they are extremely well made. Not exciting to drive by any means but not a drag to drive, either.

This car is in astonishing condition. It belongs in a serious Volvo collection.

I can't believe that car is BIN at 8k. Seems too cheap for something that nice.

Yes, I just got an eBay notification it was no longer available - so must have sold locally.

What a beauty though.....

I'll always be in the market for another 140 series car - especially a 145.

142 = 2 door
144 = 4 door
145 = 5 door (wagon)

Not my cup of tea, but a very nice car nonetheless. Pretty cool to see one in such unmolested condition. I would like it more as a two door. Growing up, my Father (also a car nut) owned a P1800, a P1800ES, and a PV544.

That is an amazing example of a car that I find totally unappealing. I like old Volvos, but that one doesn't tick any of the right boxes.

What year was your 145?

I've owned two....the most recent a 1969 - but my first was a 1970 purchased used - first car purchased with income from my first job after graduating from college in '77....

I was amazed at how well these cars were engineered. The way the interior was maximized in size even with small details like the way the windows were angled. The turning ratio was amazing - you could do a 180 in the middle of the road without leaving the asphalt!

Went on plenty of road trips in that car.

I'm thinking of getting a 740 one day but right now no room for another car so it will have to wait.

Make it a 142S, add some minilites, and I'm in. 122s are cool, too. I'd like a car like this, with zero rust:

Original Charm: 1971 Volvo 142S 2-Door

That's a nice example Steve - thanks.

They changed the front grill after '71.

Looks like this one sold already, according to the eBay link.

A little trivia - the "S" after 142 means it has two carbs.

I thought it meant "sport" model, but don't know specifically.

I learned a whole lot about these cars when I got my first one. The Swedes are not unlike the Germans when it comes to fine engineering.

The 142S translates to:

1 = first series of this platform
4 = # of cylinders
2 = # of doors
S = 2 carbs.

It also had the leather seats from a 164, and was a somewhat limited edition made by Volvo, 1 year only. They came in a choice of 2 colors, metallic silver blue, or metallic gold. I upgraded mine with Koni's, IPD swaybars, Hella halogen 6" round driving lights, Volvo alloys, and a Stebro exhaust.

Hard to find today and lots of memories from that car.
