I sent Western Union to a Romanian Prince

....and it wasn't a scam.

A customer of mine I'd been speaking with pointed out an ad for a coil winder located in Romania. Same winder I already use, that cost me $15,000 back in 2003.
Mine has been having boot issues since 2008. It was sent back to Germany for repairs, which didn't entirely fix the problem. I've wanted a backup machine since then...

The price for this winder? 900 Euros. About $1300. This winder was used in a small factory that shut down. It's been collecting dust for two years.

As luck would have it, I have another customer located in Romania. We talk on Facebook regularly, so I sent him a message to ask if he'd check it out. I'd give him a pair of my guitar pickups for his time. He agreed, but said that pickups weren't necessary, he was happy to help.

He was four hours away from the machine.

So, I wired him the money, plus some extra.

At 2am local time last night, he arrived at the location, and we set up a Skype session. The machine works, runs nicely, and comes with a few accessories.

So the exchange was done. Now, he's going to check the hospital he works at... we think there might be some medical equipment crates to put it in. We'll use a company called Schenker to transport it.

According to the people we bought it from, there's another machine somewhere in Romania as well... somewhat higher prices, but still a steal compared tot he original price. He'll find out about that one as well.

The ad: Masina de bobinaj IWT FW 020 netline - tocmai.ro

Cool congrats. That's a great find, and you were lucky to have someone local that could help. What's it wind?

I'm sure the Prince will ship it to you for free, in a box of dirt.

I thought it would wind guitar string, like a bobbin that winds wire for steel belted radial tires...
