No problems with me, Matt.

Regarding your questions in your post, "Why not allow our trained military personnel to take care of this?
Authorities are waiting for law enforcement to get on scene?
Would the Pelican military brain trust give me some insight?"

Military security is handling the situation on base, local authorities are assisting in securing the perimeter. Waiting for law enforcement is a bit misleading. FBI will be involved as will the military, in the investigation. Apparently, there is a Memorandum of Understanding between the military and the FBI that states if the incident involves military personnel on the base, the military is in charge. FBI involved because it is a Federal reserve.

Thanks ossiblue.
340 sq. Miles.
That's 204,000 acres approx.
A lot of area to search and secure.
I have no doubt our men and women will do their best.

The shooter is dead but the situation is still "active" whatever that means...

The root of the problem is that military personnel are disarmed on base. Gun free zones attract psychos.

Initial reports indicate situation began as a soldier on soldier conflict. If so, military will have jurisdiction with assistance from the FBI, due to agreements.

I think instead that attractive targets tend to be gun free zones

Yup. Only Security Forces are armed on bases. I always found that to be odd.

God speed to those that were killed or injured, they'll be in my prayers. Nothing worse than risking your life in battle, then being killed at home by one of your own.

So, at the risk of this getting PARFed, in some US states, any citizen with a background check can carry a concealed firearm into Starbucks, but if you're a soldier, on duty, on base, having undergone a background check AND Pysch profile AND extensive, regular firearm training and competency checks AND you're surrounded by people equally well trained in firearm safety AND you're an acknowledged target for various wack-jobs, then you're NOT allowed to carry a firearm?

Yeh, that makes sense....

This was a common criticism after the last shooting (one I happened to agree with). We allow our soldiers to defend themselves abroad, then disarm them at home because apparently they're no longer trustworthy.

While I agree with your general sentiment....
I nearly shat my pants laughing!
Having been in Intel and worked recruiting, the 'background' check most people think goes on for standard enlistments is hilarious. I've had far more thorough background checks performed for low level civilian employment. Psych Profile? I had TS/SCI and my 'Psych Profile' was essentially non-existent

If you would have had a TS/SBI the background investigation would have been much more extensive.

So I guess now the military trucks the weapons out to the training area and issues them there?? Not armed on post? Pleeze...

Now the ammo is a different story altogether...We used to carry 1 live round around in our wallets, for just such situations.

I was in the Infantry. We carried rifles/MGs around post all the time. Things do change though...
