Any of You OWGs Catch the Dave Clark 5 special on PBS last night ?

Most enjoyable show. Forgot just how big they were in the 60's, rivaling the Beatles and Stones until they called it quits in 1970. Dave Clark himself was apparently light years ahead of everyone else in that period re: promotion and management of the band. They produced their own music, toured on their terms on their own plane, kept all the rights to their music, and when they all got tired of it, just walked away.

Everyone interviewed on the show from Paul Mcartney, Elton John to Gene Simmons all basically said the same thing: the DC 5 did the right way...

Wish I had seen it... they were one of the many fun bands from that time period.

Looks like that broadcast spurred a few people to order the DVD from Amazon and write a review of what they saw...

Yes it was a great show last night. Growing up in England in the 1960's it was pure magic watching and listening to the DC5, Beatles, Beach Boys etc.

Music now just does not compare. Just so totally different that it cannot be compared. Was very teary eyed last night. Powerful stuff.G.

Watched it--I had no idea regarding the number of hits they had--and how business savvy Dave Clark was. Leasing his publishing rights for 5-year period the label.

The Elton John remark about how DC5 never had their "big lawsuit" like so many of the other Brit bands was funny... tongue in cheek"He never needed to, I hate him"

The only downside, "Catch them if you can" has been on repeat in my head since the airing.

Bu... bu.. but we are paying ten to twenty times as much for tickets! Todays music HAS to be better!!!

Beatles and DC5 were a bit before my time, did see the Beach Boys, CSN&Y, Lynerd Skynard, and bunch of others I can't remember for $15 a ticket

Yea I watched it. Good show great band. I had to laugh when Paul McCartney was talking and they had his name with "musician" under it. As if anyone doesn't know who he is

I somehow stumbled into it. It was really good. And even though I am of that generation, I had no idea of their influence.

It was a very good, informative program about a group not many people remember. They had a lot of hits with a very unique sound and style. I was thoroughly entertained.

My sentiments exactly. Who knew Dave was so sharp. (no pun intended...oh OK it was intentional)
