What Foods Do You Refuse To Eat?
If these were the last items in my fridge, I'd just go hungry. There are things I like, and things I don't like. But these things I just cannot muscle down.
Mushrooms - Just don't like the flavor. You can pick 'em out of a dish, and I can still taste their presence. Ranch dressing Blue cheese (and its dressing) Soft cheeses Eel - That always goes uneaten (by me) on my sushi platter. Calamari - Like mushrooms, I just don't dig the taste. The little tentacles don't help, either. Sea cucumber - Though Mrs. Noah says this doesn't count because how often does this show up on the dinner table in the average household/restaurant? |
Noah, I like everything you dislike!
My "not gonna do its" are heart, tongue and balut. Once was enuf with balut. Matt |
kidney - don't eat the filter!
|
Organ meat. Any critter, any organ.
|
Great, Matt. Next time I'm in Kingston, or you're in LA, we'll go out for a meal together. We'll get along fantastically!
|
I'm in.
Just so you know, Kingston PA, not Kingston Jamaica maaaan. Matt |
Offal, unless it's liver disguised as pâté. Oh, and chicken feet in black bean sauce. Actually, anything with feet in it.
|
No organ meat for me. Although I have tasted and liked chopped liver pate. I tried tongue, it tasted like corned beef, but I could not get over it being a freakin tongue.
My family, both paternal and maternal, would have sheep head for Easter. My grandfather would split the skull and pluck out the eyes. They ate the brain like it had the cure. Grandpa said the eyes were like candy. I just tried tripe a few years ago, tastes and has the texture of rubber, my wife and mom love it. Mom loved bone marrow. Oh, they BBQ'd brain wrapped in fat, Italian/Greek thing I guess. |
Mayonnaise
Ranch or thousand island dressing Kidney, brains or tongue meat MRE's, C, K rations (now that I am retired) Mushrooms Other than those listed, I eat just about anything. I was a very picky eater as a kid, but once I enlisted it was eat what I got or go hungry. It opened my eyes to many things I didn't think I would like. I do 99% of the cooking in my house and I do not mind cooking with any of the items listed, I just do not really care for the flavor or texture. Of course I have eaten enough field rations to be able to never want to ever have another. |
Asparagross!
|
Mushrooms. never could enjoy them.
On the other hand, my grandfather used to make tripe. Loved that growing up. Most dont. |
Runny eggs of any variety!
|
|
Onions
Cauliflower |
Not a fan of anything processed.
And lima beans. |
Beets.
I'm fine with rutabagas, turnips, collards, spinach, etc. ...basically all other vegetables, but beets just turn me into a little kid holding his nose and shaking his head. |
i wont eat testicles from any animal..
other than that..i'd try pretty much anything if it doesnt jack up my health. i wont eat it if it causes a gout attack, raises my cholesterol, or clogs any of my "tubing". AND my kumbayah side wont let me eat stuff that is just not cool or sustainable. no birds nest soup, or shark fin soup. (my family freaked out at my wedding dinner, i had to explain it in a speech..to everyone's rolling eyes).. pretty short list.. |
I'm pretty wide open on food.....I make a killer beef heart chili.... The hearty ads an incredible richness
|
Olives, pickles, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers.

My refuse to eat stuff: Brussels sprouts, parsley, liver, thanksgiving stuffing. |
Sushi or any raw or rare meat.
|
I don't think I've had organ meat, except for pate. More of a function of those that do the cooking don't like it and never felt the need to order it.
Peanut butter is the one food I cannot stand and I'm not allergic. I does not matter if it is covered in chocolate, I just cannot eat it. |

I don't like beets.
|
No organ meats, no feet (e.g. pig feet, chicken feet, etc), no eyeballs, no testicles.
Won't eat anything that is served in Styrofoam or "leftovers" that come home in Styrofoam. This is a real weird one from somebody who will eat from any street vendor in Thailand or Mexico... angela |
Mushrooms.
When I look at sliced mushrooms all I can think is "so that's what slugs look like after you run em through a meat slicer" |
Beets, liver (although I eat chicken liver & onions about once every 5 years), raw fish (sorry that's bait), pig or chicken feet (I've eaten them but I can't get over the toe nails).
The only organ meat I eat is heart. It's pure muscle. No fat. I make a great tasting stuffed deer heart. Only problem is having to shoot them in the neck so you can harvest them whole. |

Organ meat as most have said and mushrooms. Also egg plant
|
what's the deal with organ meat?
You guys do realize it's one of the healthiest things you can eat right? |
|
I'll eat anything but beef liver... I have tried it every way! I have heard the "My mom makes it taste just like chicken fried steak" BS! I love pork liver in Braunschweiger though!
|
Picky eater thread?
There is literally NOTHING I do not eat. That said, I stay away from processed food and industrial meat, especially chicken ... Tough luck if you come to my house. Gumbo? It will have every small game animal in it that couldn't get away quick enough and those pesky tough parts of animals like feet, hearts, tongues .... I even include road kill (personally run over). ;) G |

Ranch Dressing is the shizzle! It makes almost everything better, but I don't eat that much of it these days. I haven't found many cheeses that I don't like, blue, soft, hard, ripe, whatever. Unagi or Anago eel sushi, super yum! Calamari is ok. I can't say that I've ever had sea cucumber. I guess I'd probably try it. I tried tongue last summer. The flavor was good, but I wouldn't ever order it on purpose. Liver whether it be calves or chicken or braunschweiger (sp?) is all yummy. Never had tripe, and don't really have a desire to try it, but if some was plopped in front of me... Yeah, I don't think I'd like to eat anything that still looks like it did before it was cooked, chicken or pigs feet, sheeps head, eye balls, testicles. I may not try any of those if given the chance. I also don't have any desire to eat bugs, tarantulas, scorpions, etc... I would like to try a durian fruit. |

I make ground burger using it from time to time. Mix 3 parts 85/15 beef, 1 part liver, 1 part bacon....you can still taste the liver, but it's not as bad and it's dirt cheap for an incredible protein source. I think I pay $2.50/lb for grass fed liver. |

bugs, organ meats, sweet breads..whatever. my asian food kung fu takes over and i just go for it. okay, i might not eat CRAZY foods like placenta, or drink blood..there is nothing that grows out of the earth i wont eat. |
Veal, for sure, for the cruel way those poor calves are treated, but hey, I'm a ranch kid, so I have some empathy for those poor things. Liver for sure for the way it tastes. Oysters just because. Beef and lamb reluctantly - why is it my job to kill a living being so I can eat its flesh? Eggplant. Ocra. Insects - any insect. Turkey and chicken - vegetables with feet, so they're OK, mostly.
|
Tripe and chitlins are actually good if prepared and cooked correctly. The same goes for sweetbreads. Brains I am not too fond of, but if fried right, they are palatable. One of the weirdest things I ate growing up is when my dad would go fishing, he would bring home trout and when he would gut and clean them, he would put the roe sacks to the side. My mom would batter and fry them like pieces of fish and we would have them for breakfast the next day with eggs, bacon, toast and left over ranch potatoes from the night before.
