IMSA/TUDOR Long Beach

I can't tell from what the IMSA website says if they're gonna stream the whole race or just the pre-race, but here's the link. Pre-race on now...

IMSA | TUDOR United SportsCar Championship | Live Broadcast

One can now watch the entire race on the IMSA site... this will probably be their pattern... previously known as "tape delay" or "rebroadcast." Works for me.

The race itself was ok, but not as exciting as past races. Not much racing was shown. A lot of field summaries and pit-box interviews. I really don't care about knowing the inside mullet jokes either. Show the cars and the technology in them. How about a little more in-depth view of each team and the cars. More substance over inane booth banter.

I just don't like listening to the announcers on these telecasts. Fish, with his wink wink nod nod style of delivery just gets on my nerves. How many times per race does he say something like 'we had dinner with so and so last night and he said the car was...' Diffey used to get excited if he saw a moth in the booth. Varsha was one of the good ones. Greg Creamer and Bill Adam were some of the best; Knowledgeable and informative. Switch the announce crew and put more substance into these races. Fans want to feel like they are there and getting an inside look into the race, not the personalities that cover it.

The commercial breaks every 3 to 5 minutes was killing me. They would come back from a break, post the running order and go to another break. Hard to follow a race when all you see are ads for batteries and motor oil.

I didn't want to say that. Racing is better watched from a turn box.

was at the race. Good enough but nothing like the old ALMS. World Challenge was a much better race.

The RSR's could do no better than 4th in the Tudor race

watched the race ... thanks for the link!

at least it wasn't a **** show of officiating from IMSA like the other two was. i think pure professional drivers really really helped with that one.

the 911s rarely have the outright pace it seems, they tend to be long distance thoroughbreds, not quarter horse drag racers. sadly they couldn't do better then 4th and 5th.

Why are Corvettes so fast compare to the 911s? I am not sure what's going on in auto racing anymore. The Indy car years were the best IMO. I use to go every year.

Considering the road vette's are much much faster than the road 911's, this shouldn't surprise me.

What does surprise that I think is crap - are the BMW's. Street legal BMW's are running I6's, the crapcar BMW's are running V8's. A Z4 should be totally outclassed in a field of Ferrari's, Corvettes, and Porsche 911's.

Not sure if they are still running RX8's, but RX8's passing 911's is another wtf for me.

they do heavy balance of performance of these cars. restricter plates, RPM limiters, weight ... they try to make it a race for each car. make sure no one car runs away with it.

Long Beach is more of a social event than a real race. Talk to the drivers, get up close to the cars, watch some hargy-bargey in the hairpin. But photos suck with all the fences. Laguna Seca is the better race, but it is a bit farther away for me.

I was shocked there was no full-course yellow!

Back in the early 2000's, a privateer team (Allegra) ran a BMW in the ALMS with a sticker that said "I wish I had a V8" because the rules wouldn't allow them to run the car with a V-8. The new BMW looks nothing like the model it is based on. The 911 does as does the Ferrari, Corvette and the Viper. Produce a competitive car and race it as is.

The RX8 with the carbon-fiber tub and all the whizzbang doodads in Grand Am was neat to look at but unfair to the other competitors.

Thanks for sharing your pics. The fencing really does get in the way of good sight lines. :-(
