Ferrari enters the abyss...
Luca must really be pissed. Domenicali has fallen on his sword and has been replaced by the guy that has run Ferrari NA the last few years. As far as I can tell, he has zero racing experience.
I was never a Domenicali fan but this does not bode well. JR |

we should have sensed something was up from the shots of him in the paddock at Bahrain - like his whole career was riding on Kimi & Alonso being able to hold off the Force India cars in the late stages...guess it was.

It has been said that it was Stefano's decision to quit and that Luca wanted him to stay, but nothing is ever as it seems in F1.
I'm surprised that Luca doesn't delegate the selection of interior colors for next year's road cars to someone else and take a more active role in the F1 team. He ran it in the Lauda years and that went well... Me, I'd think about canning the engine guys... JR |

If you fire the engine guys who do you rerplace them with?
I bet the top engine guys are all employed and under contract. There is always a new guy coming along but finding the good ones is the hard part.

Ferrari has more than just engine problems. It seems the whole car is off just by a fraction in each area. They need to look at the data and improve the car overall. Firing the team principal is not the correct move.
A few years ago, Brawn (old Honda/Tyrrell), was able to come up with one idea (diffuser) that set the field on its ear and got Button the championship. Mercedes seems to have found that one area in its engine design that sets its car apart above the field for now. I don't think Ferrari will catch up this year to Mercedes. Alonso might be able to get some points and struggle to third or fourth in points but Kimi doesn't like the car and will not push. Getting rid of Stefano Domenicali now is unwise and will hamper the team. Improve the car and get it competitive. Dismissing the team principal this early in the season is just a stupid knee-jerk move. Kind of like the old days of Todt being on the bubble each race based on how the cars did. ![]()

When de Montezemola stomped out of the last race in disgust before it had even reached its midway point, Domenicali's fate was cast in stone, I think. Also, beyond fooling around with the coding for the computers, I'm not so sure what can be done with the power units, as the engine and KERS units are being called these days. Haven't they been design-frozen by the FIA by now? Supposedly, the power units are over weight, which would be hard to fix, it seems like.
All that said, Autosprint is reporting that Gene Haas' new team will use Ferrari power in 2015. We shall see.

BBC Sport - Fernando Alonso worried at lack of Ferrari speed
There was another BBC article written by I think Colthard who said essentially that Ferrari was having trouble getting the power to the ground out of the corners. That compounded by a lack of straight line top end was the issue.

The engines are not the problem, it's the "Power Unit" as a whole that is giving Ferrari problems. They can build racing engines.

Personally I hope Ferrari can't sort their engines out in time before the skunk they've had driving their car decides to move on elseware.
Just cannot like a team that has that guy, didn't like Mclaren or Renault when he drove for them either. It was massively disappointing that he resigned his contract to continue for me. It'd be nice to see a young gun take over his seat. Ferrari, with few exceptions, has been where former champs go to retire - not to win more championships.

New guy is Marco Mattiacci. Well, he's unknown to me, not that it matters.
Good luck, Kimi and Ferd will eat him alive. Guess he was Pres of Ferrari North America. So maybe he's OK. Last edited by yellowperil; 04-15-2014 at 11:44 AM.. |

From Autosport today:
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says he will be more involved in the running of the Formula 1 team in order to help new team boss Marco Mattiacci. Can't hurt... |
