Would you choose your Porsche over your sailboat?
Given a choice which would you prefer to keep going forward in your retirement years? I am coming to that crossroad and soon one must go..............what would you choose given a choice?

Both look good to me. Find something else to unload.

Always a tough choice. _/) |

I did.
Sold my boat when I decided to get serious about driving the p-car on track. Wasn't so much about the cost, it was about time. You can only have so many hobbies.

Brother, this is a hard one. My wife bought me my 911 when I came home alive from Iraq after my second time over. Because of the sentimentality, I will never give up my car. We have owned two sailboats, a Chrysler 22 to learn on, and then an O'Day 26 to sail Puget Sound. We are currently sans boat by choice...moving too much with my career. We do plan to get another boat post retirement, and if I have to make a choice I will go back on my word and get rid of the Porsche. My entire family can go out on our sailboat for weeks/months at at time and gain more experiences than we can in the Porsche.
My answer is about experiences, not things and do-dads. In the end a boat and a car are things...providing different experiences. Boating provides better ones for my family. YMMV. |

Wow, what a tough choice. I would keep them both. When I retire, I have thought about picking up a sailboat for knocking about while the working stiffs are at their 9-to-5s.

To be honest, I get nervous taking old Misses Brown out for weekend drives like never before. These older restored longhoods have become way to valuable these days. It sits most of the time in the garage and goes out only when the weather is nice. Anyways its getting old being chased down by young dads in SUVs, Crossovers and big four door sedans with that familiar "wish list" look on their faces. I know exactly what they are feeling.
When comparing adenaline...............my heart is racing out of my chest on the mountain twisties in the 911, but under full canvas, close hauled on a nice tack, balanced helm, boat sailing along at 8 - 10 knots, on a sunny day...its HEAVEN..................Of course a nice dose of Captain Morgan and coke help too!!!!!!!!!!! _/) |

I made that choice a few yrs ago, 911 needed some money to fix and so did the boat. The boat won out cuz on the water I never worry about radar. On the water I never worry much about anything.
Will I ever get another Porsche, sure, love them. I am a confirmed 10 mph over the speed limit and even that is getting my wife in a tizzy, more like 8 over now.Totally love my boat, can take the grandson out or friends. If you can maintain both, perfect, if not, well not a issue in my mind.

If you just like to sail and not cruise, get a smaller boat. Lots of options but I've often thought about a day sailor, that's how I use my boat 90% of the time anyway.

My thought, too. When I retire, I'm thinking of something in the 22'-24' range that can be single handed if need be.

You will never lose money on that 911, but there may be a time when you can no longer sail, but could still drive a 911 if you only had one.
You are not yet ready to sell either, and it doesn't matter if you pronounce that with an E or an I. |
