AC/DC hanging it up...I hope not

Bottom line Malcolm had a stroke more than a month ago and may not be able to perform again, pray for him.

That is really too damn bad. I had no idea that Malcolm Young had had a stroke.

(Here's a pretty good interview with Bon Scott from 1977 - he's going on the road with a couple of unknowns in America!)

(Hint, iss - Kay and ush - Ray)

It's an unconfirmed rumor for now.

I saw them in Neunkirchen Germany on the H2H tour with Bon and again on the BIB tour with Brian. Great high energy shows, some of the best I've seen.

They brought in Brian quickly after Bon's death and replaced Phil Rudd on drums for awhile. Looking on Wikipedia, they've had quite a few members and changes over the years. Wonder why they couldn't bring another rhythm guitarist in?

Who do you think is responsible for AC/DC's sound?

As much as he was in the shadows Malcom was half that band.

Sucks they may be done but they had an incredible run.

Left nothing on the table and stayed true to their thing the whole time.

I'm not doubting Malcom's contribution to the band's sound. Bon Scott contributed to that sound as well in the early days and he was replaced in what, a year? I'm sure if Angus was sick we would see the band retire.

Probably don't want to turn into one of those bands touring with 1-2 original members (Doobies, Creedence, etc) but I'm sure there's some 14 y.o. kid in the Outback who can play Malcom's parts note for note (heck, there's probably 5 or 6 of them out there).

Just kidding man. I love all those guys.

FWIW, they did have a stand-in for Malcolm a while back while he was in rehab. I think it was a cousin who looked just like him. But I've read they have a pact now that they won't continue without anyone in the current lineup. IIRC, Back in Black is the second best-selling album of all time, right behind Thriller, and it was done a year after Bon passed. Malcolm is also the boss of the band, so he's doubly hard to replace.

AC/DC "Back in Black" was my very first concert ever. Johnson City, TN circa 1981 IIRC. Awesome concert.

Malcolm is the Man.

I know I sound like the grumpy old man here (get off my lawn!)

To me (just my opinion) rock and roll is (or least was) about youthfull rebelion... just seems weird (to me) to see 60 and 70 year old dudes still trying to do it...

Yes, I know they are making truckloads of money and I don't blame them for taking it.

And yes I'm a hypocrite because I'm 57 and play in a garage band... maybe I'm just jealous

^ Fountain of youth. Selling out stadiums 45 years later would really help you to feel like a kid.

It's worked for Keef.

I saw them right before Mr Scott died, and during the B in B tour, they rocked. Too bad about Mr Young.

I too am sorry to hear this. I guess more to follow as updates become available, so I hate the speculation. For me, the "Bon years" were like bliss! He is perhaps my favorite lead! But I agree that they stayed faithful to their sound all these years later and rarely do I ever change stations when ANY AC/DC song (new or old) is played!

Not my first but, saw that tour as well...... My buddy Rusty and I would roll in his Nova and if we pulled up next to an old couple with their windows down, we'd bust out "Big Balls"...

Man, we'd laugh at how fast the windows would get rolled up. We were for sure some obnoxious little ****s. Though "little" was not a word used to describe Rusty from the time he was about a month old, ha haha...

Love me some Scott but, I was a senior in 81 and BIB was one of my anthems..

Will be sad if they do retire but, hey everyone has to and they've been ROCKING IT,,,HARD,,,, for a good God Damn long time....

Now if we'll all bow down to Angus Young and repeat the Mantra......"For those about to Rock......."

Same here, Springfield Ma. The croud was yelling, "Angus, Angus, Angus!!!" I had no idea what was going on....

In 2009, I saw them at Gillette stadium and they were starting "Hells Bells" and I said to the two guys to my left, "I remember them doing this on the Back-in-Black tour, 29 years ago!!!" They said, we are only 23 years old!!! Wow, where has the time gone???

I will not take this well.....
