What kind of a list is that? Not a single well setup 944.

I could make a case for at least 10 different models. A better answer - one of each.

What really annoys me. REALLY annoys me. Is there is never a SC in the list. OR the porsche picture book. I understand jealousy may come into the equation, but please more attention given to the finest Porsche off all (drumroll please) the 911SC.

I don't think there is such a thing as the best Porsche ever but this comes close for me...
I luv everything about it and the colour is just perfect IMO. I would prefer this to anything else out there (within reason) and it's realistically attainable. My ultimate dream car.

^^^this is the correct answer.

I will say this: the 930 is probably my favorite of all of them. The 904 just kills me with how bad@$$ it looks, but either the 930 or the RUF Yellowbird would be my top choice.

I understand where you are coming from Peter. A yellowbird - even if it's painted green. The sheer rawness of it. Seat of the pants ultimate performance.

NICE??? ... A bit of an understatement IMO but I've always liked green cars.

I came close to buying a proper "Yellow" Yellowbird about 4 years ago. The car was in the UK and beautiful but the price?
.......... After I worked out the total costs to get it to Aus and get it registered it soon became a no go (I would've had to sell my house to afford it)

Recently I was the best man at a wedding and the couple spent more than the total cost of that UK Yellowbird getting hitched. As you could imagine it was a great wedding and reception.

One good thing though, the prices for genuine RUFs are all over the place so it's still there on my dream list.

See, I don't like green cars. So for me to say it's nice, that means the color must be pretty darn good!

Which ever one I happen to be fortunate enough to own and drive at that time. Personally, I'd like to own another 356 "C" coupe, this time fitted with a four cam engine.

My personal desire is a 1989 930.

These also look like fun, but I would not call it the best Porsche ever built.

Totally agree Bill!

To drive=late 80s guards red 930 coupe!

To park in my living room and just stare at it all day and buff it on occasion with a diaper, once I have removed all furniture and declared it my living room queen (forget garage queen!)=late 50s 356 speedster!

I had an SC. I like the SC. But imo, if a list mentions any 911 made between 1974 and 1992, there's no reason to single out the SC years for a mention. The changes are trivial if you're not an anorak/otaku/nerd.

My money remains on the 1985.5+ 944 coupe as best Porsche ever. I've long felt that Porsche's attempts and cheaper models have resulted in their best work: 356 Speedster, 914, 944, early Boxster. I'd be quite happy with a garage containing nothing but those Porsches.
