1953 Chris Craft Project boat - $3500

Posted on one of our local FB trading boards.

Looks cool. I have no affiliation or interest but you never know what you crazy ****ers on this board are into.

If anyone has interest in knowing more I can reach out to seller.

Description;

Wood is solid but it needs sealant. There are some gaps between planks. The inside needs a new deck. The engine was rebuilt 15+ years ago before we bought it. We never did anything with it, so don't know it it runs r not. The leather on the seats was redone too.

What HD said. I love wood boats, really love Chris Crafts but they can eat you out of house and home.

My cousin had a pretty nice one for a while, sold it about 5 years ago. I'll try to dig up photos when I get home. It was in pretty great shape overall and still needed some expensive maintainance on the wood.

Another hobby I could get sucked into. The Abbey on Lake Geneva in Wisconsin has a real nice show. My father had a '48 Runabout that had won a couple of Captain's choice's. I'm pretty sure one was at the Abbey.

+1
Great event too!

---- Wish I was closer to the OP listed boat. The lines ooze with style. Any idea what engine?

I keep clicking this thread... I must be a sadist. If I had space to work on it I'd have to own that beautiful boat...

I have no desire to own a boat right now much less a 60 yr old wooden one but I'm having the same issue trying to ignore it.

If I were back on Long Island again surrounded by water and endless places to go i'd grab it in a heartbeat.

My poor long suffering husband is EXTREMELY fortunate that this did not show up for sale when I was in Texas with his pickup truck (work in February).

I would have drug that home to Oregon in a heartbeat...

Here we go with the promised photos of cousin's boat in Minnesota back in '07 or so...it was a '49 in nice shape. He sold it and we were out taking pics to list it on this day.

Enjoy.

Nothing wrong with wood.......glass is advertised as no to low maintenance...it is NOT !
Ask someone that had "blisters" !
Wood has been around for ever ...
Glass is wonderment if "sea worthy" after 25 years...Glass Boats have split in 1/2 !
It comes dwn to what you like to work with...I am a wood fan cause i understand it , love the smell, noise, romance.
Glass is stinky...
Each to their own.
Going in you will need to check for broken frames, bad plank repairs.
Engines i just discount as bad and go from there.
Wood brings joy to the hart.
You can not go wrong on the asking price.
Where is this at?

Congrats, I love those things. I'm sure they're a lot of work, but when done right they are beautiful.

If I saw that thing sitting with a 4 sale sign, it would be mine! The lines are timeless, I have owned and restored an all wood '67 Owens sport fisherman. It is a love affair.........

the open boats are very collectable and going up in value esp CC or riva's

cabin boats not so much interest or appreciation in value

but as they get rarer I see a future value to any well built wood boat in like new shape
but it comes with a intense maintenance costs to keep them that way

The Coronado were in the collectors eyes right from the start.

Wow, how coooooooooool!

Gezz, does that bring back some memories. I learned to water ski, (or was it flying?) when I was a kid off the back of one like Denis pictured. All 98 lbs of me didn't stand a chance!
As was already stated, wish it was just a bit closer, but even if it was I probably have enough projects to keep me going a few more years. Some lucky guy will snag it.
