I did this to the lights on my 996 with fantastic results. And I'd like to thank whoever engineered the headlight release mechanism on those cars. No worries about sanding paint, just give one bolt a half turn, and take the headlight inside with you.

Automakers don't care as long it fails after warranty. The vast majority of their customers never deal with this problem. The problem occurs after the original owner has unloaded the car.

Thanks, I've been needing to do mine too. This thread motivated me to spend about 15 minutes on mine this afternoon with some basic rubbing compound and a rag. 100% better now!!

Did the Toyota 4Runner today, took about 1/2 hour, used stuff I had lying around, like an old jar of Mother's Mag polish, DuPont polishing compound and some Eastwood fine polish, one course of each. Literally looks like new! Thanks for the idea!

Excellent work guys.
And maybe a coat of carnauba wax to stop oxidisation/UV problems. |

Burn the fire.

Is that the best option to prevent the plastic lenses from corroding again?

Did my Clio headlights this weekend, well actually one headlight as the job was such hard work for someone only a week out of hospital. Used a Quixx kit bought on eBay for about $19. It was for use by hand, and came with 2000,3000, and 5000 grit wet/dry paper, several polishing cloths, a small sanding block, the abrasive polish and the UV protectant.
