Daughter is taking a course in Ann Arbor Michigan Univ.

She will be there for about 3 weeks doing a course for her Phd in this univ. Will be staying at the student residence there. Anybody have experience with this univ.? Sounds like a nice place? Yes ? No ?:) Guy.

I live in Ann Arbor, so do several other Pelicans.

College towns, what's not to love?

If you come down to visit, I'll show you scenic Huron River Drive as it links up to Dexter.

I have had some wild times in Ann Arbor.

I don't really remember any of them.

The Buckeyes sure love that place!!!......:D

My daughter got 2 Master degrees there, loved it but moved on after graduation a few years ago.......

Usually scores high on lists on best places to live. Not so great for Porsches though - lack of decent maintenance & repair biz.

This is my home town! I was up there yesterday. Lovely city. Safe, walkable, lots to do. SO much great food. Really depend on what your daughter likes to do. Into the outdoors, art, food, history, etc...?

Gilson Motorsport isn't too far...well worth the drive IMO!

Crazy Jim's Blimpy Burgers.

Cheaper than food.

Nuff said.

I'm a green blooded Spartan and I love Ann Arbor and U of M, too. As a senior citizen, students, particularly in the very active Tango scene, have been very welcoming.

Not relative at all but I was born in Ann Arbor. My father taught & did his doctorate at U of M.

Eminent Domain, big old U of M just took the land and is building another giant building.

There is talk of Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burgers opening up elsewhere (next to the Fleetwood), we shall see.

Great News!!!
New Location! We are pleased to announce our new location at 304 S. Ashley in downtown Ann Arbor. Our lease is signed and we have a good contractor lined up ready to go. We are busy preparing the restaurant to replicate the “quint-essential” Blimpy experience.

I am thinking of driving there in our Camry and the daughter and wife fly there namely Detroit via Toronto. Her course lasts only about 3 weeks so we will make a holiday out of it. I will pick up wife and daughter at the airport and drive to Ann Arbor.

I would likely have taken the Boxster but it has only 2 seats. A 996 would have been okay for the short drive from Detroit to Ann Harbor but that is not about to happen.
Likely take the Yellowhead route to Winnipeg then down to the US border, Grand Forks, Brainerd etc and possibly through Bemidji where my mother used to own a trailer at Cass Lake. Look forward to leaving Dodge. Just did a trip in the Camry to Victoria to visit relatives. Could not live there - too many people, sprawling suburbia, condo buildings etc. I like the wide open spaces here. A 20 minute drive here and you are out in the country. Walk on to most golf courses a half hour out of town. The only fly in the ointment is the crappy weather. Right now the temp is 32F going to a high of 40F.
Cheers and have a warm day!:):)Guy

University of Michigan = coach poachers... I keed... I keed.:D

Maybe one of the Michiganders can answer what is the place off Route 23 (to the right in the turn as you are headed north) that has the large sculptures and Christmas light displays? Passed that place quite often in the past but never knew what it was.

porsche4life 05-06-2014 12:43 PM

Isn't your daughter in her 20s? Does she really want mom and dad following her down there?

wdfifteen 05-06-2014 01:07 PM

The University of Michigan emerged from hell and settled there. I would keep my distance.
