Can't Find a Truck I Like
I hit all the majors in the past couple of days. The big three, Nissan, and Honda. Apparently no one makes the truck I want. Half ton 4x4s are HUGE! I actually measured an F-150 and the rear corner of the bed is 4" higher than my Tundra. The floor is 3" higher. I cannot imagine climbing in and out of one of those things 12 or 15 times a day. It's the same with all of them. This trend of making a simple pickup truck feel like a semi-tractor has gotten way out of hand.

+1 - if they made them the size they were 15 years ago, imagine the fuel savings, combined with he modern drivetrains! Not sure where this "bigger is better" trend is coming from in a time gasoline is $4/gal in most parts of the country. Compact trucks are affected too, i.e. the tacoma or the S10 aka Colorado.

That's why I love my Ford Explorer Sport-Trac - not too big, and with the V8, I can haul up to 7000 lbs, which is plenty sufficient for pulling a car to the racetrack. Plus with the IRS, the ride is exceptionally smooth on my NJ roads. The truck bed is on the tiny side at 4 ft.
Too bad they stopped making the Sport Trac a couple of years ago...

Do you have to get a new truck? You could get a rust free, second hand example out of California or Arizona for pretty cheap, I would think. Watch out for signs it has been in a flood of course.

Get a running board or step of some kind to make getting in easier.

Yep, Tacoma is the same size as the old Tundra. They are apparently dipped in gold though.

My Mazda B-4000 is a good fit for my needs. Pretty much same as a Ford Ranger.....It's my 4th Mazda PU. Also had one Toyota and one Datsun; never a Vehicle from the Big 4 since 1967.

I wish I still had my '85 Toyota SR5. I beat the hell out of that thing and it still kept running. Sold it at a profit too.

Another Tacoma vote. Far easier to maneuver around town. Cons - freaking expensive, average MPG, back seats aren't very big.
