Went over to the dark side...bought a MacBook Air

Very nice machine. They have a "New Model" of the 13.3 inch version that has a 1.4 vs a 1.3 GZ dual core processor, so they are selling the old ones for $900. Learning a new OS is actually fun after you get your feet wet. This is my first MAC and let me tell you....you can really see and feel the quality. I am impressed! The Porsche of laptops for sure.

Yup. I installed Windows 7 running in parallel with the Mac OS. Not one crash in two years. Fantastic machine.

I've got a list of Microsoft technical certifications a yard long.

Been on a MacBook Pro for 3 years. Never looking back.

Welcome to the dark side! I have been with macs from the start! we have had a bunch and still own most of our old ones. They are all in their original boxes, waiting to be worth something. Most likely saving them for grandkids to play with, if we ever have any!

Every IT guy I know thinks I'm crazy when I say Mac is superior. I laugh at 'em.

+1! Once Mac, you never go back.

I have six years on a iMac without a glitch. I never went more then two years without a PC crash. My MacBook Pro has performed flawlessly as well. I loaded Office for Mac and haven't missed a beat.

Did that too a few years ago but I swear that Apple went on their way to do stuff reverse of the Window.

No key to delete forward... fn + delete and so on.

As a Mac and PC owner, I really don't get what all the fuss is about. I think both systems are very similar.

I own/maintain lots of computers in my home and business. PC's with XP, Vista, 7, 8, Server, etc.
Mac's, iPads, iPhones and now Kindle HDX.

They all work fine with a little TLC infrequently.

The Mac's are anything but foolproof as evident by the long lines at the Genius Bar and the number of refurb's in the marketplace.

I recently had to replace the HD, sata cable and battery in a Macbook. They break like everything else (as long as we are comparing quality goods).

A $2,000 Macbook is compared to a $379 Toshiba quite often - there better be a difference.

My current Macbook is a late 09, the first unibody aluminum models. I've had no problems other than buying two, off brand, chargers and one battery

Easiest way to explain it- Windows operates like a Mac with Parkinson's. Windows complains too much, and too much spamware. Win 8.1 has MSFT sponsored Ad's in it.

Classy. I hate MSFT.

I've always been a PC guy, since about 1988 or so. I've built them from scratch, bought them and modified them and just bought some and used them. I've rarely had problems with my PCs and am usually a defender of MS. I still am.

But Apple makes good stuff. I've had a couple of ipods that have been very, very good. I'm on my second iPad. The first which was a first gen is ok, but was underpowered. The second which is an iPad Air is fantastic (typing on it now).

I bought the missus an iPad Air 11" for Christmas. It's a great little machine. I like several aspects of it. My next PC will probably be the big iMac.

Though I appreciate Mac for a what it is they are not foolproof. Evidence my G5 iMac with a burned up MB inside 2 years and a mid 2010 MaBook Pro with dead graphics card. Trust me in this...buy the extended warranty. Like my Mac and Win7 but really appreciate my Linux boxes

Macs are appliance devices. Easy to use, but limited to what the designers built it for. Good luck getting that turkey in your toaster. And you have to take it to the dealer to get the oil changed, otherwise it voids your warranty.

Spam and adware target MS just because that is the market share. Why reinvent the wheel to chase the minority OS when it is the users you are after?

Each OS has it advantage. I prefer tinkering, so I go after open source or MS. Saying an OS is superior is pretty small minded.

On the other hand, how many companies use Apple OS servers? Honest question, I really don't know. Anyone have an idea of the market share?

"how many companies use Apple OS servers"

When I was in the business I was an advocate for Linux servers of course. Especially for email because I never understood why companies paid all the licensing money for the collaborative functions of email packages and never used them.

I am a retired "end user" now and have fun learning new things, so the Mac is a new toy. Not quite like when I got my first new Porsche...but you get the idea.

I began my IT life as an AS400 programmer. Great systems because IBM controlled the hardware and software = incredible stability. Apple does the same of course.

I am aware of the limitations I have as an end user with the Macs and iPhones as far as tinkering, battery replacement, etc. I don't think anyone can find an argument against the quality of execution.

At work, we are still using a DB that has the AS400 platform.

Mac OSX is what an operating system should be - it just works and does what it's supposed to do without getting in the way. You don't even realize it's there, unlike windows which is very "present" all the time and has more than it's fair share of ding-dongs, dancing clowns and flashy lights to distract from what you're actually trying to get done. The simplicity is great. For the few windows-only applications I need to run, I use parallels virtual machines. They work great (aside from the remote access piece, which I've never been able to get working, I think because it doesn't play nicely with little snitch and I'm very stingy about opening ports I'm not familiar with). Doesn't matter. I'm never going back. The hardware is great too. Good feel and design. I just wish the keyboards included a keypad but I can live without. Not a deal breaker.
